🔑 Key Elements of Hydrogen Certification Schemes 🔑 To ensure the effectiveness and reliability of hydrogen certification, four key elements must be in place: Product Attributes: These are the specific characteristics that the certification schemes aim to validate, along with the methodologies for measuring them. Operational Set-Up and Procedures: A well-defined institutional framework and processes are essential for the smooth functioning of any certification scheme. Chain of Custody: This model tracks and traces product attributes throughout the supply chain, ensuring accurate information during every transaction. Information Technology (IT): A robust IT system is vital for managing the certification process, serving as a repository for certificates from issuance to cancellation and facilitating compliance tracking. These elements collectively enable transparency, accountability, and trust in the hydrogen market, paving the way for a sustainable energy future. ⚡ Explore these key components further in our latest publication here: https://lnkd.in/dJ_6Ny9w #HydrogenCertification #CleanEnergy #Certification #SupplyChain

👥 Key Stakeholders in Hydrogen Certification Schemes 👥 A variety of stakeholders play crucial roles in the operation and effectiveness of hydrogen certification schemes: Governments and Legislators: They set the rules for compliance schemes, ensuring consumer protection and preventing fraud. Producers: Utilize certification to validate their products for regulatory or voluntary purposes. Traders/Suppliers/End-Consumers: Leverage certificates to disclose information and comply with mandatory requirements, such as emissions thresholds. Certification Scheme Owners: Design and operate schemes, ensuring their credibility through government oversight. Certification Bodies: Independent entities that validate compliance with standards, often employing auditors for thorough assessments. Issuing Bodies: Ensure the accuracy of information on certificates and may overlap with certification bodies. Accreditation Bodies: Assess and monitor certification bodies to maintain public trust and integrity. Scheme Participants: Organizations implementing certification requirements without being involved in the scheme's development. Supervisory Authorities: Monitor compliance and hold certification bodies accountable to ensure credibility. Standards Development Organizations (SDOs): Create and disseminate voluntary technical standards, ensuring consistency across the industry. These stakeholders collectively contribute to the robustness and transparency of hydrogen certification, facilitating a trustworthy market for sustainable energy. 🌱 Find out more about hydrogen certification in our latest publication here: https://lnkd.in/dJ_6Ny9w #HydrogenCertification #CleanEnergy #Certification

In case you missed it, last week we published a blog on the recently introduced bipartisan Critical Material Transparency and Reporting of Advanced Clean Energy (TRACE) Act. It seeks to establish a traceability program at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to develop software systems for digital identifiers and interoperability standards that create visibility into supply chains for clean energy technologies, including batteries. The passage of the U.S. Critical Minerals TRACE Act can play a key role in understanding how digital identifiers - which are increasingly recognized as the industry standard to achieve enhanced accountability and transparency - can be embedded into production processes and implemented at scale. 🛠️ Key Terms and Concepts 🛠️ A certification system encompasses the legal, institutional, procedural, and technical frameworks necessary to ensure compliance and transparency in hydrogen production and trade. Here’s a closer look at its critical components: Certification System: The entire framework for certifying hydrogen, which includes compliance regulations and voluntary agreements. Certification Schemes: Instruments confirming that a product meets specific requirements, which can either be mandated by government authorities or established by third parties. Energy Attribute Certificates: Documents that provide information about the energy's origin and sustainability attributes, enabling traceability throughout the supply chain. Sustainability Certificates: Primarily used in the EU, these certificates confirm the sustainability aspects of hydrogen, ensuring traceability from production to consumption. Chain of Custody Models: Mass Balance Model: Tracks and traces the total amount of certified products, ensuring a physical link to end-users. Book and Claim Model: Separates physical products from their certified attributes, allowing for more flexible trading of certificates. Together, these elements create a robust framework that fosters trust and accountability in the hydrogen market. As we move towards a sustainable energy future, effective certification schemes will be pivotal. ⚡ Discover more insights in our latest publication here: https://lnkd.in/dJ_6Ny9w #HydrogenCertification #CleanEnergy #SupplyChain #Certification
