Today is the launch of our tenth State of European Tech, and the first ever documentary about the European ecosystem 📽️ ✏️ #SOET24 https://lnkd.in/eERbgexA SOET has always been about providing a bigger picture perspective. This year many will agree that the mood has been low, with concerns about the Draghi report, regulation, AI. The need for a longer-term outlook is more pressing than ever. We knew we needed to take a different approach to tell a story about how far we’ve come, discuss the challenges we face, and motivate the industry for the opportunity ahead. Because it's easy to forget that Europe has never had a better toolkit for success. 🇪🇺 Europe invests more in impact than the US, which hopefully will increase their investments in impact as well. Read Niklas Zennström's and Atomico's annual "State of European tech" report that was released this morning, that shows that European tech founders are increasingly thinking about sustainability when building companies – for 41 percent of respondents, their ambition is not to build a company, but to "leave behind a legacy of significant environmental and financial contribution". The report has analyzed the development of 35,000 European tech companies over 10 years and, among other things, it appears that investments in European tech have increased tenfold in ten years, from 43 to 426 billions of USD. 📣 10th State of European Tech Report is out Atomico Did you know that 🦄 Europe now has 350 Unicorns? Although the challenges and uncertainties in Europe and worldwide are growing. Niklas Zennström reminds us that ”it is easy to forget that Europe has never had a better toolkit for success.” As for entrepreneurship it’s all about Grit and Perserverance! As AI was part of almost every talk at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, this question is not just a joke. It actually echoes for me the awesome speech Nobel prize winner Maria Ressa gave on Friday evening during #canneslions closing ceremony receiving the 2024 Lionheart. She highlighted how the gatekeeping and moderating role of journalists has been taken over by tech companies, and how social has replaced the press as Gen Z source of information. This leads to people trapped by algorithms into bubbles of unverified opinions, fake news, deep fakes. A world without verified facts, without truth, without trust is a world in danger. I have friends and family trapped into these bubbles of fakism, and my kids, your kids, could face this danger. Our leaders, democracies, our societies are looking elsewhere. A few brands are raising the alarm like Deutsche Telekom and its Ella without consent campaign. We need more people, more brands, more companies to act now. We need to support journalists like Maria to find the facts, tell the truth and bring back trust. And hopefully politicians will also act too. Yesterday was a special day for us - it was our first conference, hx Live. It was amazing to see the packed-out attendance (sorry to the 100+ waiting list, we'll get a bigger venue next time!), energy, and engagement from the start of my keynote with Noel Sequeira our Technology leader, through to the end when attendees headed over to St Pauls for our Summer Party. It was also special because we talked about AI publicly for the first time - hyperexponential's philosophy, approach, and the products we've already started building and will be shipping imminently.   I've written more about this in my blog post in the comments below; formal product announcements to come in more detail very soon!
