The only language model on Earth According to Chomsky, language is a mechanism for generating correct word combinations. This mechanism generates the lexis or linguistic set, which is the set of all words and regular, stable phrases and grammatical constructions of the language. Thus, a transformer or matrix that converts all language sets into each other in symbolic form is the only language model on Earth. I'm using Llama to summarize and analyze patent claims. My particular interest is finding similarities between the claim sets of patents of competing organizations. To my surprise, I find that occasionally, Llama will offer an unsolicited opinion as to the quality of a patent's claims. One imagines that this opinion is based solely on the inter-relationship of the claims themselves and not on their characterization of the invention, but then one doesn't have any visibility into what data Llama is bringing to bear on its opinion. Exogenous data, including citations to other patents, can be found in Llama's summarization of some claim sets. In the enthusiasm in the patent practitioner community for using AI in drafting patent applications and in support of adversarial proceedings, I can't help but wonder whether there is the same level of enthusiasm for using AI to evaluate the work product of the practitioners themselves.
