It’s a solemn reminder of the courage and selflessness displayed by countless individuals who laid down their lives so we can enjoy the liberties we often take for granted. Their bravery is the bedrock of our freedom, and their legacy is a beacon of hope and resilience. As someone deeply invested in leadership and community development, I find profound lessons in their sacrifice. Here are three key insights that resonate with me: 1️⃣ Courage in the Face of Adversity: True leadership shines brightest in challenging times. The bravery of our fallen heroes teaches us that facing adversity head-on, with unwavering resolve, is the hallmark of a great leader. Today is a day of great reflection for many of us. Remembering where we were when we heard the news of the September 11th attack. Remembering the sacrifices made by the brave first responders. Remembering the families who lost loved ones in previously unfathomable ways. That day changed us all in some way. How we use this time of reflection matters. Hopefully we can dig deep and strive to be better. Better to our family and loved ones. Better to our coworkers and employees. Better to other human beings with struggles we don’t understand. Better to people who could use advice, mentoring, a helping hand, lifting up. Every day we have a chance to be a little better. I won’t ever forget the events of this historic day - but choose to use these memories in positive ways to bring uplifting change and not sacrifice values, integrity, humanity when there is so much upside for us to engage in even amid todays challenges. Here on the brink of half way to 50 years past that point of 1999 into Y2K. Maybe is the underlying wave. It has been 25 years of information coming at us at full speed. What will the next 25 years be like? How do we mark this New 1/4 century with a true focus that will guide us forward? President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, gave us a resounding Yes We Can, and we are. Building our family, our country, our global communities, will we ensure that we don’t go back. From The Great Depression of the 20’s, From The destruction of wealth in minority owned communities, From the World Wars, From the segregated progress, From the elimination of life as one may know it. Review it, true. However feel and know the past allows us the fortitude to continue in the pursuit of happiness. family bonding, celebrating the wins and triumphing over obstacles and cherishing what remains and spotlight what shouldn’t have been so that we can continue to go on about our lives with a noticeable amount of awareness to the most important parts that we may haven’t made the proper time for. A good movie, a good book, a bite to eat, laughing to tears, taking up a new interest and staying evermore grateful whilst pushing purposefully forward is the way the future will forever be what we had once hoped for, dreamed, or imagined. The future is in God plan and now in our hands. Build up from here. Build love up. Build each other with encouragement, caring enough and sharing in the work of building communities. Showing love, compassion and generosity. We know the way forward.

Thankful & Transformation Thursday: Family & Friend Appreciation Day (F-FAD) 🌟✨ Today, I’m reflecting on Family & Friend Appreciation Day (F-FAD)—a practice rooted in gratitude and connection, honoring the people who bring love, care, and community into our lives. This day is also an invitation to embrace the royalty of the reframe: to hold space for both the truth of history and the possibility for transformation. We cannot ignore the genocide and stolen lands that mark this time of year in the so-called United States of America—acknowledging these truths is essential to justice and healing. Yet, in the same breath, we can choose to reframe and create traditions that honor connection, appreciation, and care for one another in ways that heal, not harm. F-FAD is a way to shift from the colonizer narrative into one of gratitude for the relationships we nurture and the communities we grow. It’s about uplifting those we hold dear while holding space for the past and actively contributing to a more equitable, inclusive future. ✨ How are you choosing to honor your relationships today? Thanksgiving’s origins are intertwined with colonization, land theft, and the erasure of Native cultures, yet the strength, resilience, and voices of Indigenous communities endure. Rigoberta Menchú’s words remind us that honoring humanity requires acknowledging truth and creating space for respect, justice, and inclusion. In all of the work I do, I focus on creating spaces where these complex narratives can be explored with honesty, compassion and respect. We examine how systemic racism and cultural erasure continue to harm Indigenous and marginalized communities, and we work toward fostering environments where everyone feels valued, heard, and respected. Thanksgiving can be more than a celebration; it can be a moment of reflection and commitment. A commitment to moving beyond myths, amplifying silenced voices, and working toward a future where every person and every community is respected. 𝗜𝗳 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱: 𝗔 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 We're all interconnected: A Leader needs a Team, a Doctor needs Patients, a Teacher needs Students, a Husband needs a Wife, a Parent needs Children, a Philanthropist needs those in Need, a Pastor needs Christians, etc. It's a beautiful dance of interdependence. Let's remember to be humble and grateful for the roles we play in each other's lives. After all, we rise by lifting others. And let's remember, 'True wealth isn't just about material possessions. It's about the connections we forge, the knowledge we share, and the impact we make.

On this Remembrance Day, it is so important to honour and express gratitude for the sacrifices that have been made in the name of our peace and prosperity. I am a firm believer that one of the most potent ways to honour these sacrifices is to continue to invest in the peace and prosperity of our communities. Whether this means investing in health, security, infrastructure, or simply deepening our sense of connection with one another, the sacrifices we make today will only result in greater peace and prosperity for future generations. Vibrant Systems is not just a job, it is not just a company seeking to make money. For me, the work I do with Vibrant Systems is about investing in the strengths of our communities. When we focus on our strengths, transformation is possible.

This past Sunday I listened to a sermon by Pastor Nick Korir, and in part of his sermon, he spoke of what he wanted his legacy to be and the plans he had to see it come alive. (Clip below). What an impact it made on me. What is a legacy, you ask? It is the enduring impact that you make on those who outlive you. I looked out for some descriptions of a legacy, these include material possessions, our history, belief systems, values (if adopted), business practices, prejudices, name, reputation including teachings (if useful). Some of the most famous legacies we know of are the likes of Mahatma Gandhi, his commitment to non-violence and his beliefs in simple living have carried on for generations to come. Leaders, including Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, and Cesar Chavez, have followed Gandhi's views on nonviolence. Mother Teresa's unwavering commitment to serving humanity, especially the poorest and most marginalized, has left an enduring legacy. Closer home, we have our very own Wangari Mathai, who stood for what she believed in, the conservation of nature, her movement was able to plant over 30 million trees, and her goals two major goals were to help restore environmental resources and give women the ability to support their families and be self-sufficient.
