Breaking the barriers of women’s political leadership and active participation in decision-making is paramount for inclusive governance. Tomorrow, I’ll be facilitating a session at a one-day capacity-building training organized by Breaking the Barriers, supported by Yiaga Africa & UK Int’l Development. It’s crucial to empower women with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate political spaces effectively. We have a lot to learn as a People and a Nation and contextualize. Self-determination is the conversation needed by all as we ponder the almost 50 years of Nationhood and will enter into the next many more years to come. We are so Blessed to have the Framework all in the Constitution, summarized by the 5 National Goals and Directive Principles. Let us define PNG's Self Determination as a Nation and as a Melanesian nation within our Constitution and experiences so far, not forgetting we lived thousands of years as a people before being colonized and then granted Independence. What has worked and what has not worked for us? How do we improve and has the nation progressed the way it supposed to be? These and many more questions we are asking and keep seeking the answers to help us continue to create a PNG that is vibrant and conducive for our children to come. The underrepresentation of Asian-Americans, particularly East Asians, in leadership roles across various industries is striking—only 3% of executive roles are held by Asian-Americans, despite making up around 6% of the U.S. population. The representation of Chinese-Americans is even smaller, underscoring the urgency of our mission. At THICK, we are committed to addressing this disparity by focusing on the youth in our community.
