Did you know research has shown that we put our energy towards doing something for someone else, we are also doing good for ourselves? It’s true! Being altruistic boosts our feelings of wellbeing while also lowering feelings of depression (Psychology Today). And it doesn’t need to be anything extravagant. Volunteering for an hour--which costs you nothing but a bit of your time--can have the same chemical impact as donating generously to a nonprofit organization. (Of course, you can donate as well and really feel some wonderful effects!) So today, think of what you can do to give back. Because when you do, you end up receiving so much.
