🧁🍰🎂 Let them eat cake 🎂🍰🧁 Gloucestershire colleagues. Can you help? We really, really need you to. Yesterday, my incredible team and I, along with volunteers from @BraveHCG, picked, packed, collected, carried, sorted, stacked, and stuffed our way through gift sorting and hamper filling for Caring for Communities and People #HamperScamper. We set a hamper-filling record for this year (so far). 125 hampers packed, sealed, and ready for distribution. It would have been 150 hampers. What stopped us? Not enough cake! The incredible thing about #HamperScamper is the generosity of such a wide group of people and businesses. The downside is we’re never quite sure what we’ll have lots of, and what we’ll have little. Right now, it’s everything, but most of all, cakes. Christmas Cakes, Yule Logs, Christmas Puddings. Whatever you want to donate. The grand total now stands at 500 complete. 2,500 still to source and pack. There are nowhere near enough donations in yet, and every day, every item, counts. Can you donate? Just two weeks to go before the WD Geocaching Adventure in support of our Charity of the Year, PROMISEworks. Never done (or heard of?!) geocaching before? It’s a simple concept: use an app to locate items (“caches”) left behind by previous walkers and, if you find them, record your achievement before placing it back for the next adventurer! And if you’re struggling to find it, use the helpful hints or user comments to narrow it down. Geocaching is a popular activity for the young people supported by PROMISEworks, and enables mentors to get them outdoors and active during their time together. Why I volunteer when I can… This was me yesterday, about to begin volunteering for the day with Seaful charity and the amazing events they host; connecting people with waterways and educating young people about ocean protection. I’ve been supporting Seaful and a number of other charities, since becoming self-employed and here’s my reasons why… 1) To stay connected with and support causes which I believe in, and which align with my own personal values. 2) To escape the ‘busy-loneliness’ of being self-employed (if you know, you know) and connect with cool people who share my values too. 3) To maintain a sense of balance, and not become swamped with the need for revenue-based activity all the time. 4) Because volunteering is cool 😎 and yes, it’s OK to feel good about doing it too. Volunteering a few hours a week can be so fulfilling…you meet new people and gain new skills, if you’re just starting out it helps with work experience and gaining a job…if you’re retired it helps keep the brain healthy and active…whilst the charity you volunteer for gains the asset that is you!! They then convert that to helping those in need = a win win situation! The Akelius team in New York organized a partnership with the Salvation Army in Harlem. The partnership consists of three pillars - a coat drive - soup kitchen volunteering - a program which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas For the coat drive, the team collected coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and shoes, to help keep families warm this winter. For the soup kitchen, thirty employees volunteered in the soup kitchen of the Salvation in Harlem. Over three days, the team helped prepare and served meals to 836 people in need. "Working in the soup kitchen was a rewarding and purposeful experience for the employees involved. Food insecurity is even more common among families with children. In Omaha, one in five children under the age of 18 goes to bed hungry every night. Heartland Kids Against Hunger is working to contribute to stocking shelves at multiple area food pantries such as Heart Ministry Center, Together Omaha, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and more. Omaha business and organization leaders can make a large and lasting impact in our communities and beyond by encouraging volunteering and giving. Without your help, many community members including children would be going without. Every dollar donated to Heartland Kids Against Hunger goes towards packing highly nutritious meals and is tax-deductable.

Did you know there are easy ways you could volunteer your time to help Table to Table? One way is by making sandwiches. The staff at AEGIS Insurance Services, Inc. gets together once a month and makes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for our community partners.
