"With every passing year, status quo spending on natural gas pipelines does nothing to fight sky-high gas bills for Marylanders and openly contradicts the state’s climate goals," writes Shawn Kelly of Advanced Energy United in a new The Baltimore Sun op-ed today. As Marylanders switch from gas to electric, it would be financially irresponsible to continue making major investments in the gas system. Check out Shawn's article here on some of the solutions we're proposing, and what customers can do about it ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ebh3GgFs
The Maryland Public Service Commission will hold a public comment hearing in Baltimore on Thursday where stakeholders can share their concerns about the state’s current trajectory on natural gas use. Natural gas. Innovation. Decarbonization. What do these words have in common? It turns out, a groundbreaking Minnesota law and, soon, some exciting utility pilot programs. 🌱 In 2021, the Minnesota Legislature passed the Natural Gas Innovation Act (NGIA). NGIA, for the first time, provides a clear regulatory opportunity for Minnesota’s natural gas utilities to invest in innovative technologies and fuels that reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of the natural gas system and end-uses. Under NGIA, natural gas utilities can submit five-year plans to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission to invest in pilot programs that test and develop innovative technologies and fuels. Now, Minnesota's utility companies are beginning to do just that. Read our latest blog post from Audrey Partridge, director of policy at CEE: https://hubs.ly/Q02GC37R0

The Governor’s Energy Office today announced that Maine has joined a total of 10 Northeast states in signing a memorandum of understanding for improved regional planning of electricity transmission to create a stronger, more reliable, and more efficient grid and accelerate the clean energy transition. Other states joining the MOU include Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Improving interregional electricity transmission planning and coordination can stabilize energy costs by increasing access to affordable clean energy while bolstering grid reliability at times of high energy demand and improving resilience against extreme weather. https://lnkd.in/e8nWPhD4

DOE’s commitment to reducing the complexity and cost of the interconnection process will help many tribes in their energy development efforts. Register for their May 8th webinar, in the article below, to learn more. It is alarming how many projects sink significant dollars into feasibility studies without having a full grasp of what is required for interconnection. Standardization in process will do wonders for all parties (tribes, utilities and project investors).
