Sharing a post about GM (Metacentric Height) in ships, highlighting the difference between soft and hard ships based on GM. Depending on GM, ships can be more "habitable" or "less." A large GM leads to more frequent rolling, making it harder to sleep, whereas a smaller GM (sleeping on the sides) takes longer to recover stability but is appreciated by the crew for its reduced rolling. The former is considered safer but less comfortable, while the latter is less safe but more comfortable. This often occurs in ferries between islands, where a smaller GM results in less noticeable rolling, but they're less safe compared to tanker ships or similar vessels. ⚓ #MaritimeInsights #ShipStability #SafetyVsComfort
