Since the onset of the Russian invasion in 2022, Ukraine's agri-food sector has grappled with numerous challenges such as farm destruction, skyrocketing production costs, labour shortages, and landmine contamination. Despite these hurdles, the sector shows promise, according to Alex Lissitsa, president of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club. He emphasised the need for a robust business ecosystem and enhanced human capital to sustain food production. Today GLS's Danielle Pierson presented the Seaway to 50 US agribusinesses and 14 state departments of agriculture as part of USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) agribusiness trade mission to Morocco. An alliance of civil society groups has accused The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) of using its power to exert undue influence on local, national and continental policymaking in agriculture. In a briefing paper “Pulling Back the Veil: AGRA’s Influence on Africa’s Agricultural Policies,” The Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) exposes how AGRA uses strategic financial backing and embedding of consultants in government institutions to entrench industrial models to farmers. https://lnkd.in/dx8Pt8Vf

At the AgriSA Congress yesterday in Cape Town, the point of the importance of driving South Africa’s agriculture exports to a range of markets was made clear. The industry stakeholders want this, and the government agrees we must focus on it. This is part of our growth path.
