The public transport network outside of the Dakar megalopolis is in dire need of access to quality, affordable and safe transport. Mass transport vehicles such as 45-60 seater buses are great for transporting city dwellers and between cities that are linked by good roads. But 44,5% of the population in Senegal are agricultural households, the majority of which (67.7%) reside in rural areas (ASND 07/2024). If we take into account that 1. 17% of national roads, 32% of regional roads and 48% of county roads are not asphalted (Ageroute 2024) ; 2. only 58% of roads that are asphalted are in good or acceptable condition; 3. that access to means of transport for people outside Dakar are very limited and of poor quality then Senegal is in dire straits, for a majority of Senegalese has limited access to mobility. This seriously affects economic development; by itself, road transport adds 40% to the price of merchandise. Indeed, State policy in terms of road infrastructure has been oriented more towards improving the quality of the existing network rather than expanding it. Since citizens cannot stay at home patiently waiting for more and better roads and equipment, Oniva Motors offers a ready-made, quality, affordable solution: all-terrain, comfortable and safe vehicles designed for the needs of the majority of Senegalese people AND that can be produced in-country, reinforcing the government's endogenous economic development policy. The CETUD should champion Oniva Motors, the hottest option for inclusive mobility and democratic transport: www.onivamotors.com
The Dakar megalopolis is developing rapidly and estimated to grow even further, from 4 million people today to 7 million by 2040.
