Small Uncrewed Aerial Systems (sUAS) are widely available, militarily effective and challenging to defeat. In a talk hosted by 2(AS) Division and streamed by The Cove at 16.30-17.30 [AEST] Tuesday 29 October, Dr. Carl Rhodes will discuss the implications for the Australian Army of the wide-spread use of small uncrewed air systems by combatants in current and recent battlefields. https://lnkd.in/g57gVadW #AusArmyResearch #2AUSDIV #UncrewedAerialSystems

The U.S. Army and Marine Corps are advancing their defenses against unmanned aerial systems (UAS), with the Army exploring mobile weapons platforms for shooting down drones and the Marine Corps seeking technologies to protect installations from small drones. The Army's research focuses on vehicle-mounted systems with rapid-fire capabilities and integrated command-and-control solutions, targeting drones including kamikaze types. Meanwhile, the Marines aim to fill a capability gap with advanced detection, tracking, and engagement technologies, employing both kinetic and non-kinetic means. These efforts highlight the military's response to the evolving threats posed by UAS, as demonstrated in recent conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, emphasizing the importance of innovative defense mechanisms in modern warfare. #army #marinecorps #uas #counteruas #defense #technology #militaryinnovation #droneprotection #rapidfire #advanceddetection Source- https://lnkd.in/gmuSK3ue

YES! From War on the Rocks today, dispelling recent bizarre arguments that the USAF and air superiority have been rendered irrelevant by drones... The article puts a common sense approach to roles and missions, arguing we need BOTH air defense and air superiority. Dead on, and this should be obvious.... " Force protection of servicemembers in forward locations remains a high priority for commanders at all echelons, and the solution to the air and missile threat will require a multi-service effort that enables both air superiority and air defense as a holistic objective of joint air dominance." https://lnkd.in/eNJE7xTi

https://lnkd.in/dkykJ-ZX The Future of Warfare Is Electronic An audacious Ukrainian incursion into Russia shows why. Is the Pentagon paying enough attention? By Porter Smith and Nathan Mintz Sept. 4, 2024 12:35 pm ET The Ukrainian army has launched a stunning offensive into Kursk, Russia, under a shield of advanced electronic weapons. The war in Ukraine is demonstrating that 21st-century conflicts will be won or lost in the arena of electronic warfare. Think of electronic warfare as casting spells on an invisible battlefield. Combatants strive to preserve their own signals, while disrupting those of the enemy. In Kursk, the Ukrainians took advantage of their technical knowledge to achieve a leap in battlefield tactics. Using a variety of electronic sensing systems, they managed to figure out the key Russian radio frequencies along the invasion route. They jammed these frequencies, creating a series of electronic bubbles that kept enemy drones away from Ukrainian forces, allowing reconnaissance units, tanks and mechanized infantry to breach the Russian border mostly undetected. This is the chaotic way of modern combat: a choreography of lightweight, unmanned systems driven by a spiderweb of electronic signals.
