Did you know Australia's automotive manufacturing sector generated over $14 billion in revenue from over 3,000 businesses in 2022–23? The Jobs and Skills Australia employment projections forecast the industry to exceed 50,000 workers over the 10 years to May 2033. The 2023 Skills Priority List identifies half of the top 10 occupations in this sector as experiencing a shortage, including 4 out of the top 5 occupations. Key occupations for the sector include: -structural steel and welding trades -product assemblers -vehicle body builders and trimmers -industrial, mechanical and production engineers. Demand factors from the mining industry are helping to drive new automotive manufacturing opportunities. The sector is well positioned to support the local manufacture of electric vehicle components, including batteries, to support Australia's Critical Mineral Strategy.
