Vocational education has been subject to several large cutbacks in government funding during the last decade or so. The educational institutions are starting to feel that they are not beeing appreciated. Which in their opinion is strange since they are the ones providing to workforce that drives the country. My story with three educational leaders in the region is out now on Vasabladet.

In 2024 to ensure students, educators and schools get the most out of our service we have curated 3 presentation themes to choose from. Each theme is inspired by industry and education needs, is facilitated by a UNIQ You team member and engages 2 of our amazing Advisors. It’s a fantastic introduction to UNIQ You for those unfamiliar with the service and a great experience for those who have already had the opportunity to participate in a UNIQ You session. Last week Michele White from Queensland Police Service and Bec Bermingham from Yurika presented to a cohort of girls from Ohana College and the theme chosen was ‘Rollercoaster Ride…What I’ve learnt from the ups and downs. This theme explores how life can serve up some very unexpected and challenging bumps in the road but also some equally unexpected but amazing things too. Thank you Michele and Bec for sharing the setbacks and challenges and also the exciting moments you have experienced along the rollercoaster ride so far. More importantly thank you for sharing what you have learnt along the journey and how the experiences have helped set you on your path today and helped you realise your full potential. If you’re a UNIQ You school and would like to book a UNIQ You presentation or if you’re not a UNIQ You school but would like to find out more about our service, please email us at schools@uniqyou.com.au. Low-paid schools, hindered by limited funding and resources, struggle to provide adequate facilities, staff salaries, and student support services, impacting the overall quality of education. With outdated infrastructure and insufficient resources, these schools face challenges in attracting and retaining qualified educators, providing modern technology, and offering comprehensive student support programs. In contrast, high-paid schools benefit from substantial financial resources, enabling them to invest in state-of-the-art facilities, competitive staff salaries, and extensive student support services. As a result, students attending high-paid schools often have access to a broader range of educational opportunities, extracurricular activities, and support programs, contributing to improved academic outcomes and future success. #EducationDisparity #SchoolFunding #ResourceEquity #StudentSupport #EducationalOpportunity

The recent consultation on vocational education reforms gave ConCOVE the chance to share our vision for the wider sector. While the 1200+ proposals are under review by the Ministry of Education New Zealand and Tertiary Education Commission, we’ll be highlighting our future-focused thinking in this series of posts. A robust standard-setting and industry engagement framework is key to ensuring the relevance and quality of training. As part of ConCOVE’s vision for the VET reform, we’ve emphasised the importance of a dedicated standard-setting body to maintain high-quality, consistent training. We propose bringing industry needs and the standard-setting body function more closely aligned. Two key components: 1️⃣ Increased use of capstone assessment to evaluate holistic skills and bring industry closer to competence assessment. 2️⃣ A single standard-setting body across all industries. Learn more about our approach: https://lnkd.in/gsnEBHpg #VETReform #ConCOVE #VocationalExcellence #standardsetting
