Turkish Airlines has arrived in Sydney for the first time, opening a new link to Europe via the Middle East. The maiden flight TK174 touched down at 6:18pm on Friday evening aboard the 777-300ER TC-LJK, having flown from Istanbul via Kuala Lumpur. Flights will operate three times per week, increasing to five next year, with non-stop services expected to begin in 2026. https://lnkd.in/d_cmhc_P

Turkish Airlines Begins New Longest Route On November 28, at 14:01 in Turkey, TK174 left Istanbul bound for Kuala Lumpur and Sydney. To accommodate dignitaries, the press, etc., the first two roundtrip flights are on the Boeing 777-300ER. The honor of the first departure went to TC-LJK, the carrier's youngest 300ER in a regular layout. It'll then switch to the A350-900. It marked the start of Turkish Airlines' second Australian route and the carrier's new longest route by distance and block time. It covers 8,082 nautical miles (14,968 km) each way and has a max block time of 21h 35m. It replaces Istanbul-Singapore-Melbourne, which was first by both rankings. Turkish Airlines now has passenger flights to 49 Asia-Pacific airports, rising to 73 when the Middle East is included. Turkish Airlines and KM Malta Airlines have signed a code-sharing agreement to operate joint flights, effective as of June 15 2024. The codeshare agreement will provide passengers of both flag carrier airlines more flexible travel options on direct flights between Istanbul and Malta. Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Ekşi stated: "We are pleased that the codeshare agreement with KM Malta Airlines will re-foster cooperation between the two countries and provide seamless journeys for passengers flying from Malta and Türkiye.
