This makes a very important point. Love On The Spectrum is an interesting watch for many reasons but you can tell it was made by neurotypicals. The thing that gets me is the dating coach: teaching the males to pull out his date’s chair in a restaurant 😱 making them look archaic. Telling them to ask questions they aren’t interested in the answers to. Making them sit opposite each other in a bar. Forcing eye contact. 🤢 Where is the parallel play (the US version was better at this than the Australian one)? Why do the parents get to publicly comment on the dating lives of their adult children (infantilising them)? And yes where are the successful smashing it examples and people in graduate jobs or at uni etc. Autistic people in their own places or in flatshares. How come they always live at home?

Jeremy’s videos are fantastic! The way marginalized groups are represented in film/television and media influences the way people in those groups are viewed and treated in real life. A lot of the discourse regarding disability in film and television focuses on increasing disability representation on screen and authentic casting.
