It's been a big couple of days. You may have seen that #nursing and #midwifery peak groups are coming together to support health system reform. There are plenty of Alliances in health (I've been involved with, and founded, a few). What's distinctive about this one is that it's built on trust at the President/CEO level of each organisation. No secretariats, no MoUs, no membership fee...just trust. And it works so much differently and is so much more powerful because of this. We need more of this in healthcare. #health #healthcare #primaryhealthcare #nurse #nurses #nursing #midwives #valued #visible #respected
APNA has formed an Alliance with eight other leading nursing and midwifery organisations to run a national campaign to promote nurses and nursing. The Alliance will work with governments on significant primary health care reform to ensure nurses and midwives can work to their full scope of practice. This will improve patient access to care and build strong career pathways for nurses. Read more in the joint media statement: https://lnkd.in/gRpV6tg2 #NursesAreTheSolution #ScopeOfPractice

This follows an extensive review conducted by the Nuffield Trust, which will be published soon. Currently, students must complete 2,300 hours of practice learning, with 600 hours allowed through simulated practice. Sam Foster, NMC’s Executive Nurse Director, emphasised that the council is open to reducing these hours but remains focused on ensuring the quality of clinical placements. The goal is to achieve the necessary educational outcomes, even if the number of hours decreases. This review aligns with the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, which supports reducing practice hours to ease student pressures and increase placement capacity across the NHS. Even in 1924, the nursing regulator came under fire for perceived failings Our current regulator, The Nursing and Midwifery Council, may think it has challenges with perceptions of its role and culture, and its ever-present backlog of fitness-to-practise cases. #nurse #nurses #nursing #health #healthcare #regulator #nmc #ftp #fitnesstopractise #historyofnursing #1924 https://lnkd.in/dNhMAJP2

Australia trains highly skilled, world-class midwives. • While nursing and midwifery are considered ‘caring’ professions, their degrees are science-based. • Australian nurses, nurse practitioners, and midwives are increasingly postgraduate qualified. • Australian-trained nurses and midwives are sought after globally #safe #trusted #skilled #experienced @Australian College of Nursing (ACN) @Australian College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) @CATSINaM @CRANAplus @Australian Nursing & Midwifery Federation @Australian College of Mental Health Nurses @Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA)
