An extract from the talk with attendees at the Ubon Humanitarian Capacity Building Seminar in Uyo Getting it right: The reorientation Attendees: Is there money in agriculture? Me: Yes, there is. Attendees: Then why aren't we making money? Me: You might not be making as much money as you could due to the following reasons: 1. The myths, misconceptions, and stories surrounding farming have led you to treat your farm as a hustle (a means of survival) rather than as a business. 2. You are not keeping up with ongoing technological advancements in agriculture. Agriculture is beyond our understanding of the traditional practices. Attendees: How do we move forward? Me: First, dispel those myths, misconceptions, and stories. Start viewing your farm as a business that requires your full attention and strategic planning. #Bethelight #Thelightbearer #Breakthemyth #Eleniyan

Schlettwein offers solutions for a booming agricultural sector Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Carl Schlettwein, has detailed the pre-requisites for Namibia’s agricultural sector to thrive and anchor the sector into the value chains map. Addressing delegates at the 25th Bank of Namibia Annual Symposium last week, Schlettwein identified meaningfully recognising agriculture as a national priority and according such priority through deliberate resource allocation across all facets of the value chain as a key enabler. He noted that at 2.3% of total non-interest expenditure and about 0.7 percent of GDP in 2024/25, budgetary allocation to agriculture falls far short of recognising agriculture as a high national priority, a matter that must urgently be aligned. https://lnkd.in/dWCU4AyY

Increased allocation to Ebonyi State Agriculture. Participatory Development Alternatives (PDA) with support from Actionaid have continued to advocate for increased allocation to Agriculture. Over the years, PDA in collaboration with the Budget committee Group have continued to engage and collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Ministry of Budget Economic Planning and Statistics to achieve increased allocation to agriculture and proper implementation of allocated budgets. Compared to the 2023 total allocation to agriculture which stood at 2.7%, the 2024 agriculture budget covered 4.11% of the total agriculture budget. Meanwhile, apart from the increase made in the capital expenditure in the agriculture sector compared to the total agriculture budget, there is also a percentage increase of agriculture capital allocation to total capital expenditure with 5.80%. This quite commendable but there is still need for the State government to bridge the gap that exists in agriculture financing. #agricfinancing #SUPIA #agricbudgets
