In Tanzania, avocados are grown in middle and highland areas with cool temperatures ranging from 10oC to 23 o C, 600 to 3000 heights above sea level and rainfall ranging from 600 to 1600mm. They are mostly grown in Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, Songwe and Njombe. 🇹🇿 Tanzania is Africa’s third-largest avocado producer after Kenya and South Africa, whose avocados were granted market access to China in June 2022 and August 2023, respectively. South African growers and exporters are now actively preparing for their first shipments to China, while Kenya has already completed its first year of exports, emerging as a notable supplier with a 6% market share and an impressive export value of $7.647 million in the first three quarters of 2023.🇨🇳 Tanzania currently exports over 20,000 metric tons of avocados annually with a value of approximately $30 million. By 2026, the industry hopes to have boosted annual exports to over 33,000 metric tons, which is expected to bring in close to $50 million in revenue each year. 💰 With respect to the opening of the Chinese market and future shipments, the sector is upbeat, citing the strong advantage of a shorter transit time compared with shipments from Peru, China’s main supplier of avocados at present. In addition, Tanzanian authorities reportedly intend to establish a “green channel” to facilitate the export of fresh avocados from farms to the Chinese market. We look forward to shipping to the Chinese market 🇨🇳🇹🇿🥑 Source: https://lnkd.in/g6T3PFDk AFROAVOCADO - taste of Africa

In 2022, 554,000 tons of this Hass avocado were exported as a country; in 2023, there were 558,000; reflecting growth of around 1 percent. This year Peru expects to export about 468,000 tons of Hass avocado, which would mean a drop of 16 percent compared to last year, although it could be larger. (SOUTH AFRICA / JAPAN 06.09.24) Westfalia secures Japanese export market for avocados [AG: Avocalypse Now? - Aussie Avocados Face Global Squeeze] #globaltrade #avocados This is an article about Westfalia's https://lnkd.in/gAc5dyVM expansion into the Asian market. It discusses the company's recent agreements with Japan, India and China to export avocados. These agreements are significant because they open up new markets for South African avocados and could lead to more collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders. ----- [AG: South Africa's recent deal to export avocados to Japan is a wake-up call for the Australian avocado industry. Global competition is heating up, and Australia risks missing out on lucrative export opportunities. Here's why: • More Players, Same Prize: While Australia isn't mentioned in this specific article, countries like South Africa highlight a growing trend of aggressive avocado marketing. • China's Closed Door: Unlike South Africa, Australia hasn't secured access to the massive Chinese market, a major growth area. • State of Our Avocados: With various Australian states and territories lacking individual export deals, the national industry is falling behind. This doesn't guarantee Australia will lose on price. However, the lack of diversified markets and coordinated effort could mean missing out entirely. The Takeaway: Our Australian avocado industry needs to act fast. Collaboration between government and producers, strategic market positioning and a focus on quality are crucial to secure a slice of the global avocado pie. Otherwise, our delicious avos may struggle to find a home on the international stage. A Note on Domestic Markets: Even if Australia fails to significantly export its avocados, the domestic market remains crucial. However, without exports, domestic prices could plummet, forcing growers to sell at a loss. To mitigate this risk, the industry must invest in value-added processing. Processing excess avocados can help balance supply and demand, ensuring sustainable and profitable farm gate prices for fresh avocados. By diversifying revenue streams, Australian avocado growers can better weather the challenges of the global market.] ----- https://lnkd.in/gNK_eGiP

(CHINA / TANZANIA 26.11.24) #avocados First Shipment of Tanzanian Avocados Arrives in China [AG: Insights for Australia's Avocado Industry from Tanzania's Success] The first shipment of Tanzanian avocados, comprising 24 metric tons of Hass avocados valued at $18,500, arrived in China on November 18, 2024, after a three-week sea journey. ----- [AG: Tanzania's rapid rise as an avocado exporter offers several lessons that Australia’s avocado industry could adopt to strengthen its position globally: • Diversify Export Markets: Tanzania has successfully broadened its export markets, moving beyond Europe and the Middle East to establish trade with China, a high-growth market for premium produce. Similarly, Australia could explore untapped opportunities across Asia and the Middle East by meeting specific market requirements and leveraging its reputation for premium quality. • Government and Industry Collaboration: Tanzania’s government partnered with the private sector to drive growth through tax incentives, technical support, and infrastructure improvements. Australia's avocado industry could benefit from deeper collaboration with government bodies, focusing on trade negotiations, marketing support and investments in supply chain efficiencies. • Embrace Sustainability: Tanzania has adopted sustainable farming practices that align with global demand for eco-friendly produce. Australia, with its increasing focus on environmental stewardship, could further integrate water-efficient irrigation and sustainable farming methods to strengthen its premium-market appeal. • Empower Smallholders: Tanzania’s integration of smallholder farmers into the export supply chain creates consistent supply and socio-economic benefits. Australia could empower smaller growers, particularly in rural areas, to boost overall production capacity and ensure supply reliability. • Enhance Infrastructure: Tanzania’s focus on reducing post-harvest losses through cold storage and improved logistics offers a critical takeaway. Investing in better transport and storage solutions in remote Australian regions would help maintain the quality of exports, critical for retaining a premium product reputation. • Proactive Compliance for Market Access: Tanzania’s proactive approach to meeting regulatory standards in China demonstrates the importance of market-specific compliance. Australia can adopt a similar strategy to navigate trade barriers, ensuring smoother market entry and consistent trade flows. By learning from Tanzania’s strategies, Australia’s avocado industry can diversify its markets, enhance sustainability, and boost competitiveness, all while solidifying its position as a leader in premium avocado exports.] ----- https://lnkd.in/gywNuzDf
