Australian Information Security Association (AISA)’s Post

Australian Information Security Association highlighted the privacy issues related to smart devices. In October last year, AISA hosted Dennis Giese, a researcher who exposed the potential for robot vacuum cleaners to capture and leak images. As the peak body for cyber security in Australia, we again emphasise the dangers of the use of smart devices in Australian households. Talking with Ruth Wynn-Williams from Channel 9, AISA’s Board Chair, Akash Mittal, expressed significant concerns over the privacy and security threats posed by these devices. He says, “As the peak body for cyber security, we are deeply concerned about the privacy and security risks associated with the use of these smart devices. We know that these devices can be hacked, and an attacker could be watching or listening into our homes. Any efforts that can be made to keep Australians safe and protect their privacy are welcomed.” AISA also commends the efforts by The Australian Centre for Robotics to develop cameras that produce real-time scrambled images that humans can't decipher.
