I recently attended a workshop on how AI can benefit the social sector. One attendee raised a concern about AI potentially spreading incorrect information since it is often trained on data available on the internet, which anyone can add to. This concern was brushed away by the facilitator, who argued that we all use representative information anyway. However, as we promote the use of AI at work and in educational institutions, portraying it as the collective knowledge of humanity, we must consider: How can we prevent AI from replicating and perpetuating the systemic discriminations that plague our world? As more people interact with AI in their daily lives, how can we ensure it does not reinforce existing gender, caste, and racial biases? I think the social sector needs to consider its role in the AI “revolution”. We must ensure that as humanity grows and evolves, we do not carry forward the injustices of the past and present. This article by UN Women shows how today's AI models are mirroring the gender biases in the society: https://lnkd.in/gf94Vxd8 #ArtificialIntelligence #AISocialImpact #EthicalAI #Inclusion #GenderEquality #SocialJustice #TechForGood #AIForAll

I came across an insightful article exploring how Artificial Intelligence mirrors the gender bias prevalent in our society. Currently, AI presents several challenges stemming from bias in algorithms, misrepresentation in data, lack of diversity in tech development, access to technology, and outdated policies. One solution that can tackle gender biasness in AI is to ensure decision-makers are keenly aware and actively engage diverse members in the process. Creating inclusive forums to gather and integrate feedback on policies and regulations could be a vital step towards addressing these issues. #LawrenceEta #DigitalTransformationLeader #ThoughtLeader #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #DigitalDivide #DEI #GenderBias #TechInclusion #TechGovernance #GenderEquality

….Blog post alert... This topic; Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) can be overlooked when approaching social problems with a solution. It is not uncommon to have our perceptions influence the outcomes of our #research work and even our #digital and #AI solutions to identified challenges. Inadvertently, we get excited about our interventions and the GESI consideration evades us. Check out my reflection on GESI project in AI and after going through the Peer Learning Journeys (PLJ) workshops. Thanks to Gender at Work for these workshops. https://lnkd.in/eCNNFDXA
