I once joined a software team about to start on v3 of their product. It was a web app, but being developed on the old approach of releasing once every couple of years. My first task: prioritise the long, long list of features being considered for v3. I was the wrong person to ask. I wasn't a user of the product and I wasn't a stakeholder. But decisions needed to be made. So I invited all the project stakeholders to a prioritisation meeting, where I briefly explained the "must/should/could" approach (aka MoSCoW) to all involved. I explained our aim was foremost to make a short list of "must do" items. I asked them one by one their opinion on this approach. Each person said they were happy with it. I think what they were really happy about was that someone was finally tackling the hard problem of feature prioritisation they were facing. It was a long, boring meeting, but we stuck at it. One by one, we went through the entire wish list, coming to a consensus on whether each item was a "must do", a "should do", and a "could do". I think everyone implicitly understood that although we used the term "could do", it was a polite way of saying "won't do". Once done with that, we had a second meeting, much shorter than the first. This time we went through all the "must do" items, and picked the most important five. Again, we reached consensus. The team now felt they had an achievable aim: do all the "must do" items, then move onto the "should do" items. Finally the team could start implementing v3. Was using the "must/should/could" approach perfect? No. For example, we didn't have any "voice of customer" person involved. And we didn't make any systematic evaluation of which features would be best on a value / effort basis. Was it right for that team, in that situation? You betcha. We achieved consensus and we had a clear understanding that we could only implement a small portion of what was on the wish list.

Building MVPs with no-code tools sounds like low hanging fruit. Because they never show you these pitfalls: 1. Scalability → As your user base grows, performance issues will appear → It’s not easy to fix bugs and add new features → Transitioning to a fully scalable app is much more costly then 2. Integration → No-code platforms offer limited integration options → Custom integrations is complex and needs additional coding 3. Dependence on the provider → Your product is tied to the provider’s ecosystem → Customization and flexibility is limited 4. Security → There are potential vulnerabilities and data breaches → But you cannot implement custom security features 5. Learning curve → You still need basic tech expertise to maximize the potential → It requires time and effort to learn how to utilize the tool → Development missteps cause technical debt and poor product performance If you are serious with building a long-term product, form a product team or hire a software partner

Whether you build in traditional software or Web3, you never want to see a bug. That’s why the concept of hardening code for production exists. Production-readiness in traditional software involves ensuring the software is secure, scalable, performant, and maintainable, and developers often leverage CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and logging to achieve this readiness. But in the world of Web3, there are new attack vectors and variables that make thorough testing even more important than it is in traditional software. In Web3, there is no un-do button. There's no central authority to mediate disputes or reset your login credentials. The code often holds crypto assets with real-world value, making it a target for bad actors. As a result, it’s even more critical to harden your code in Web3, perform thorough testing, and implement robust monitoring strategies. Find out how to harden your code for production here: https://lnkd.in/gXSzXq46

🫠 A part of me cringes inside when I see that a FinTech develops policies and/or procedures in Google Drive. 🦨 Google Drive is the WORST place to save any type of policy or procedure. 🔴 It creates friction for employee and contractors. 🔎 They need to know what they’re looking for and the structure of the Drive/folder structure, before they can find it. ✋ It requires several clicks to search for materials. ⚠️ It requires understanding the file name structure to locate the proper version. 🚜 When we develop customized information security policies for our clients, we start building in Confluence. 💻 Developers are already using JIRA for software changes. 📞 Agents are already using Confluence to know how to handle a Customer Service call. 📋 Project Managers are already using Confluence to house specs for new initiatives.
