Boston Dynamics just gave us an incredible look at their upgraded Atlas robot in action. In the new video, #Atlas is moving engine covers between a supplier container and an assembly cart — and it's not just following a pre-set program. Atlas receives a list of where to move parts, then uses computer vision to recognize objects and locate the correct containers. This is real-time, self-directed decision making: no operator, no pre-scripted movements. Every action is calculated and executed by the robot itself. Atlas even adapts to changes in its surroundings. If something moves nearby or if the part doesn't fit quite right, it notices and adjusts. Using force sensors, internal feedback, and constant vision tracking, it keeps a steady grip on the task. And it's fascinating to watch — at around [1:00], the robot's head and body do some almost-human turns that look both quirky and slightly unnerving. At [1:20], it's funny how he gets spooked for missing the slot. Anyone who has worked with #robotics would know how challenging it must have been to set up this demo.
