Here is another scenario I would imagine is more difficult for 🤖 than 🧍: You receive a PO with many boxes filled with an assortment of SKUs. Some are in casepacks but the majority are eaches, banded with rubber bands and others are loose. On the same PO, you also have multiple metal components, without barcodes. So, the 🤖 would have to be able to unband the eaches and also measure the metal items to determine what they are, differentiate between ones of the same size, but different orientation (say, top and bottom or left and right side aluminum rails) and then mark the items with their SKUs. Perhaps there are robots capable of this sophistication. #warehousing

How Shuttle Racking Systems Work In Shuttle Racking Systems, pallets are moved within the racks by robot shuttles, a kind of sledge which runs on tracks just underneath the beams that the pallets sit on. An ordinary, manually operated forklift places the shuttle into the rack at the desired height and pallet position, and the load to be put away is placed on the shuttle. The shuttle can then move itself to a greater extent into the rack to the desired position, where it drops off the pallet and returns to the end of the rack, to be moved elsewhere. There is one common need in most warehouse automation projects: Floor flatness You would think warehouse slabs are flat and level and ready to go. They were for 99% of regular storage and distribution uses before e-commerce. With e-commerce came new technologies that have the potential to get products in the building, put away, picked, packed and out the door easier, faster, and cheaper. These new technologies are generally categorized under the term warehouse automation. Warehouse automation comes in several flavors: autonomous mobile robots, cobots, automated guided vehicles, automatic storage and retrieval systems for starters. The common thread here is movement of goods. Many of these allow for higher and more dense storage. Movement, height and density all require increasing safety, engineering, precision, IT, and...floor flatness. There are many ways to achieve this flatness. Two of the most common are screeding and grinding. Both have their pros and cons. Here is a quick video example for screeding.
