Last week we were discussing logistics for a team meeting in the office today. A colleague seemingly took offense to the mundane focus on scheduling sharing in a team chat the nation’s focus on December 7th being a day that would live in infamy and his disappointment that we weren’t treating September 11th with the same reverence.
I’ll admit, I was livid at his implication. How dare he imply I don’t know the sanctity of this day. Did he not know the pit of the stomach feeling I still have thinking about watching the plane hit the second tower while on the phone with my father who was in midtown telllng him to “get out”, not knowing if he would? Did he not know the angst I felt in the following days and weeks wanting desperately to come “home” to NY where my entire family and upbringing were, and my mother saying I needed to stay in Boston so someone from the family could survive? The countless days I waited to know the status of friends and neighbors, some of whom never came home like our neighbor and hero, Steve Driscoll who sacrificed himself as an NYPD first responder to save others? And did he not know from that day forward I changed my career and life focus to prevent that day from ever happening again?
The truth is, he didn’t. He also didn’t have the benefit of my perspective in the sheer beauty, luxury even, to be scheduling a meeting on 9/11 as if it were any other day. 20+ years later I can do that because the terrorists didn’t win; we did. Our nation came together as a collective to ensure our way of life endured. We were our best in those days, weeks, months after 9/11 united and demonstrating the sheer resilience of the American people.
To give insight into how I view today I share a montage from comedians who helped us laugh again in the days after 9/11 and reminded us in their own way that life would and could go on.
May we never forget and may we also never forget that we are our best as a nation when we come together.

Lets chat!
Meet Archie! 🧐
Archie was being weighed down by everything he had grown to be. Quite frankly, he looked and felt like a mess!
He needed to shed the excess and streamline.
There were 2 options
1. A slow process of cutting back a bit at a time until he was at the right level of streamlined
2. A rip-off-the-plaster fast streamlining exercise adding back important features afterwards once they were missed
Archie now looks permanently surprised 😯
Any guesses which option he went for?
Choose wisely folks. When cutting out the excess in your business and streamlining your operations, think carefully about the result you are after. Don’t get rid of the most important things.....
....like eyebrows 😂 Don't be Archie.
