🌍✨ It's #NationalInclusionWeek! ✨🌍
This year’s theme is ‘Impact Matters’ – a powerful call-to-action for everyone, from leaders to teams, to make a difference. At Women In Travel CIC, we’re celebrating by shining a spotlight on our ElevateHer programme! 🚀
ElevateHer is our Employability Programme, designed to empower underserved women through mentoring, upskilling, networking, and access to work opportunities. Whether they’re refugees, survivors of gender-based violence, or long-term unemployed, we’re helping them break barriers and thrive in the job market. 💪
We asked our partners what motivated them to get involved in the ElevateHer programme, the impact they’ve seen and why inclusion matters. Here’s what Amelie Matuschka, Industry Manager for Travel at Google, had to say:
“When it comes to inclusivity in the travel industry, I think inclusivity is a no brainer for every industry, but particularly for the travel industry. Travel thrives on diverse perspectives, experiences and talents. And when we create an inclusive environment, we create one where everyone feels valued and respected. And it also challenges the industry to kind of like break the norms of things that they're doing, which ultimately creates incredible potential and innovation as well. I really encourage everyone to learn more about Women in Travel and the ElevateHer network so that we can continue to build a more inclusive and equitable travel industry”. - Amelie Matuschka
Join us in making a difference! Together, we can empower women and create a thriving, inclusive travel sector. 💪✨

Tourism is a unique industry that provides so many opportunities and types of jobs.
It’s one of the most flexible options that can lead to fulfilment and success.
Perfect for countless women across the world who are balancing families, studies, and work.
Unfortunately, like most industries, there isn’t equity or equality, but as that changes there’s potential for millions of women to work in jobs they love, gaining skills, independence and money to support themselves and their families.
That’s why initiatives that create training, provide resources and education for women in tourism are so important.
So it’s time we all consider how we can get involved to further these initiatives to create a more sustainable and fair industry for all.
If you know of any or work with any of these initiatives, pop them in the comments below!

We had a great kickoff call today for The Expat Woman Virtual Summit. The sessions start tomorrow, so if you have not signed up yet, there's still time to do it. Here is the link: https://lnkd.in/gDwD5g9i
I will be speaking about self-limiting beliefs that can get in the way of being a successful expat woman and will provide a tool (SPARK technique) to help overcome those. Other topics that the Summit speakers will be discussing include the Power of the Enneagram, Building CQ (Cultural Intelligence) for success abroad, ATCKs (adult third culture kids), and more.
The sessions are all free during the event, and if you want to be able to access the recordings, the decks, and bonus materials provided by the speakers (like templates, e-books, access to workshops, etc), you can always sign up for the All Access Pass or the Power Pack options.
Enjoy the summit!

The women's network WingsWomen always sets a main theme for three months to take a deeper look at. The first topic they address is ✨networking✨.
As one of the main aims of the women's network is to make networking between women at Eurowings easier. Networking can take place at on-site events (like in the picture) or via platforms like LinkedIn. In every case, it helps us build professional connections, gain new ideas, and share skills and knowledge.
👉 Maybe you’d like to take the chance to network in the comments down below (What are you searching for and what can you offer?) 🤝

Celebrating World Seafarers Day 2024 🌊⚓️
Today, on World Seafarers Day 2024, we take a moment to honor the incredible individuals who navigate our seas and keep global trade afloat. This day is not just a celebration of their hard work and dedication but also a time to reflect on the challenges they face, particularly in terms of diversity and inclusion.
One of my mentees from the Maritime Empower Her Program recently shared her experience as a seafarer. Despite acquiring essential technical skills, she found that the real challenge lay in navigating the diverse cultural dynamics on board. “Going on the ship for the first time and finding oneself among a bunch of other nationals is very common,” she said. The ability to accept and embrace different cultures wasn’t something she learned from a textbook; it was a real-world lesson in diversity and inclusion.
Her story got me thinking about the broader issues of diversity in our industry. Seafarers often work in environments where they encounter a multitude of nationalities, each bringing their unique cultural perspectives. This diversity is a strength, but it also poses challenges, particularly for women who may face additional barriers in a predominantly male industry.
Diversity Challenges in Maritime:
- Cultural Differences: Seafarers come from various backgrounds, leading to potential misunderstandings and cultural clashes. Embracing cultural awareness is crucial for a harmonious working environment.
-Gender Barriers: Women seafarers often face gender-specific challenges such as limited access to facilities, biases, and isolation. They may also encounter resistance to their presence and leadership on board.
- Inclusion in Decision Making: Women and minority groups often find it challenging to have their voices heard in a traditionally male-dominated industry, leading to a lack of representation in key decision-making roles.
Solutions for a More Inclusive Maritime Sector:
- Cultural Sensitivity Training: Providing training that promotes cultural awareness and sensitivity can help seafarers understand and respect each other’s backgrounds, leading to a more inclusive and cohesive crew.
- Gender Equality Policies: Implementing and enforcing policies that promote gender equality and provide support for women can help address the specific challenges they face.
- Inclusive Leadership: Encouraging inclusive leadership practices that value diverse perspectives can lead to better decision-making and a more supportive working environment.
At Maritime Empower Her, we believe that diversity starts by acknowledging our differences and embracing them.
How are you celebrating World Seafarers Day? Share your thoughts and let’s continue this important conversation! 🌍👩✈️🧑✈️
