The arrogance: Israel says it will invade Rafah, Gaza no matter what the WORLD or US says: A top #Israeli official said his country’s #military is ultimately going to #invade the southern #Gaza city of Rafah and defeat #Hamas “even if the entire world turns on #Israel, including the #UnitedStates.” “We are going to go in and finish this job, and anybody who doesn’t understand that doesn’t understand that the existential nerve of the #Jews was touched” by the Oct. 7 attack when Hamas operatives killed 1,200 and abducted 250, Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer said on a #US podcast posted online Thursday. A close confidant of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Dermer is headed to #Washington early next week to listen to concerns from the Biden administration that such an #invasion would cause many more civilian casualties at a time when #famine and #disease are spreading in Gaza. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in the region pushing for a deal between Israel and Hamas that would lead to a six-week #ceasefire and an exchange of #hostages for Palestinian #prisoners along with a big increase in #humanitarian aid to the more than 2 million #Palestinians in the coastal strip. We have killed some two percent of its population, the vast majority of victims being civilians. And the worst thing is, we have grown used to that. Israelis do not bat an eye when they hear reports of dozens of children and women killed in a bombing. They just don't care. These attacks, where dozens of human beings, who just like us love, dream, hurt, have family and friends – are slaughtered (I have no other word) by our military, became a routine. Any death of "innocent bystanders" used to be extensively reported, even raising public debate. Today, a year into the war, reports of displaced persons' camps in which refugees were burned (and it is not a metaphor!) hardly make it to the fleeting war updates on news websites. *Facts to remember on this tragic morning:* 1. It was Hamas who murdered the abductees in cold blood 2. Hamas has not responded positively to the deal since November 3. The terrorists murdered the abductees probably due to the approach of IDF soldiers. Therefore, those who believe that the responsibility rests with the government that sent our forces at the government's order should say directly what he is proposing - that the war should be ended, a comprehensive withdrawal from Gaza, including from the perimeter that separates Hamas and the surrounding settlements, from Philadelphia that separates Hamas from renewed intensification, and that international guarantees not Renew. Yearning for freedom and justice. These might be slogans to many of you, but to us as Lebanese, and every other population living under occupation and unjust regimes that are supported by the most powerful governments in the world are much more than slogans. Our people are being killed, our country is occupied and being bombarded with shells. No, they are not hitting armed troops, they are aiming at and brutally bombing civilians. What happened in Gaza is happening in Lebanon. Praying only will never change a thing. Solidarity should be sharing the message, letting others know of the atrocities of Zionists who claim to be at war with Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Hezbollah, while in fact are targeting the civilians in Lebanon. All while Iran and Israel conduct their negotiations and doing agreements over our spilled blood and shattered bodies and the destruction of our country. What we need is for this to stop, for our leaders to grow some courage and consciousness and act instead of react, for our people to live in peace, without an occupation or an occupying colonial genocidal regime across the boarder, always seeking expansion over deaths of hundreds of thousands and millions of deaths since it was declared as a state, taking over Palestinian land and people.
