🌱🍽️🤔Did you know that St. Patrick’s Day is a great opportunity to eat more greens? ‘Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Daoibh’ celebrate the taste of Irish today! Luckily a wide range of vegetables are grown in Ireland, the most popular being potatoes, cabbage, carrots, broccoli, swedes, cauliflower and parsnips. Bay, mint, rosemary, chives, thyme and sage can be left outside all year, though the latter two may sometimes wilt a bit in our endless rainy winters.
🍎🍐 In addition apples, pears, cherries, plums and fruit bushes (blackberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, blueberries and gooseberries) are popular choices for Irish gardens.
🥦🌍It is becoming more popular to incorporate plant-based meals into festive celebrations around the world. Green cabbage is a traditional ingredient for classic Irish side dishes like braised cabbage or colcannon that can easily be made vegan by swapping out dairy for plant-based alternatives. 🌿🌳Vibrant moss-covered rocks, dense forests, and expansive meadows create a mesmerizing mosaic of greenery, earning Ireland its title of the Emerald Isle.
📗☘️Green was finally introduced to St. Patrick's Day festivities in the 18th century when the shamrock became a national symbol. Because of the shamrock's popularity and Ireland's landscape, the colour stuck to the holiday.
📆🎉March 17 marks St. Patrick's death and Ireland's Independence Day, coinciding with Lent's serious religious observance. However, it became more of a festival rather than strictly a religious observance in Ireland and the Irish community around the world with parades, parties and other festivities.
