✈ Recent Aviation News ✈ Port Alberni recently bid farewell to the iconic Hawaii Mars waterbomber as it took its final flight from Sproat Lake to its new home in Victoria. This historic aircraft, which played a crucial role in firefighting across British Columbia, will now be a centerpiece in the B.C. Aviation Museum's new wildfire aviation exhibit. The send-off included a tour of Vancouver Island's coastline and a formation landing with the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, marking the end of an era in aerial firefighting. #Aviation #Firefighting #Innovation #Legacy https://lnkd.in/dH43AFBN

How will preserving historic aircraft like the Philippine Mars inspire future generations in aviation and firefighting? Coulson Aviation announced that the Philippine Mars aircraft, one of only two remaining Martin JRM Mars flying boats, is set to depart Sproat Lake in Port Alberni, BC, on Sunday, December 15, at 10:00 AM PST (weather permitting). The Philippine Mars will travel to the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona, where it will be preserved for future generations. According to Wayne Coulson, CEO of Coulson Group of Companies, the preservation of both the Philippine Mars and the Hawaii Mars, recently donated to the BC Aviation Museum, is a tribute to the significant roles these aircraft have played in aviation and firefighting history. The Philippine Mars will begin its journey with a flyby at Harbour Quay in Port Alberni before proceeding to Victoria, BC. If conditions allow, it may perform a symbolic flyby alongside its sister aircraft, the Hawaii Mars. Led by Captains Peter Killin and Todd Davis, the route includes a stop in San Francisco for customs clearance and will anchor in the Alameda Lagoon—its former operating area for the US Navy. It will then fly along the coast to San Diego for scheduled events and video documentation, including a water landing near the Coronado Bridge and an overnight anchor near the USS Midway Museum. Finally, in Arizona, the aircraft will be disassembled at its factory production joints before becoming part of the Pima Air and Space Museum’s collection. SKYTRAC will provide flight tracking data and software for the journey, allowing the public to follow the aircraft’s progress until it enters Arizona. Mandi Skinner, Regional Business Manager at SKYTRAC, expressed pride in supporting this milestone, highlighting the long-standing partnership with Coulson Aviation. How do you think preserving iconic aircraft like the Philippine Mars will inspire current and future innovators in aviation and aerial firefighting? Ship of the desert….In what could be a seen from the next Dune movie.....our very own Julie Armstrong caught this video while camping at Caloundra. The video is of the MV Aries outbound from Brisbane and appearing to be pushing across the sand. The MV Aries (299.9m) was piloted by Poseidon Sea Pilots Craig Rogers and Colin Kesteven, with the MV Aries crew also the subject of a recent update on gifts for seafarers on World Maritime Day 2024 (https://lnkd.in/gBfM3fXT) Poseidon Sea Pilots, Maritime & Infrastructure Technology Solutions, Access Datacom, and Maritime & Aviation Survival Solutions are proud AMS Group companies. I find it hard to comprehend how a naval vessel of such high value (both dollar and making up 10% of NZ naval fleet) can be used to survey potentially hazardous shallow waters that can easily be flown from an airborne bathymetric LiDAR system in a fraction of the time and cost. There’s no doubt airborne LiDAR won’t capture the deeper areas, but it will identify shallow areas that can then be avoided by floating vessels. https://lnkd.in/gUmgFDWZ

Does America Has a UFO Problem? Guadalupe Island Had It First Back in 2000, I helped pioneer shark cage diving at Guadalupe Island, a remote volcanic jewel 220 miles off the coast of Baja, Mexico. Known for its pristine waters and the world's most spectacular great white shark encounters, Guadalupe has always been a place of awe and mystery. But it turns out, the sharks weren’t the only extraordinary things we were observing. Since 2005, I have been documenting strange lights and unidentified objects in the skies over Guadalupe. We called them the "Guadalupe Lights." These weren’t fleeting glimpses or anecdotal accounts—they were frequent, consistent, and completely unexplained. Fast forward to 2020, and the U.S. Navy confirmed radar tracking of high-speed, unknown aerial targets moving from San Diego to Guadalupe Island before vanishing without a trace. These weren’t just "sightings"; the Navy’s most advanced radar systems were tracking them. Guadalupe Island isn’t just a haven for marine life—it’s becoming ground zero for some of the most intriguing UFO activity in the Pacific. From great white sharks to the enigmatic Guadalupe Lights, this iconic island continues to captivate and baffle those who visit. So, you think America has a UFO problem? This little slice of the Pacific has been raising questions for decades. #UFOs #GuadalupeIsland #UnexplainedMysteries #GreatWhiteSharks #GuadalupeLights #USNavy #AviationMysteries #WildWorlds

Did you know that most commercial planes don't fly over Mount Everest? 🏔️✈️ Despite being capable of reaching altitudes well above the world's tallest peak, we typically avoid this route due to: 1. Unpredictable weather conditions 2. Lack of emergency landing options 3. Challenging navigation through the rugged Himalayan terrain Safety is always our top priority, and sometimes that means taking the longer route!
