How do you let the quieter people on your team shine when there’s a massive star in the mix?         This is a common challenge brought to me by leaders.   And I can see why it’s an obstacle.    I often see people with enormous technical skill and experience feel bamboozled by someone else with more obvious charisma.    As a leader, this is frustrating.  Sometimes your strongest talent is the quietest.    But if you’ve got someone else commanding attention, it can be a confusing time for all.    ‘Everyone on the team thinks I want them to be more like that guy…’but I just want them to be more comfortable in themselves’.  One leader told me recently.   So here are a few things you can do to help even out the balance.        🚀 Celebrate diverse communication styles.  As a group, discuss speakers you admire and spotlight quieter ones.  Have everyone discuss the value of different styles.  🚀Work on storytelling.  Often we forget to put the magic to the maths.  Every single person has a story in them and they are the best way to build connection.  🚀 Let the star shine.  This is never about dimming someone’s light.  We just want to help everyone else radiate too.      At The Boost, we help companies like Tik Tok, Meta and Paramount craft compelling stories.  Get in touch if you’d like to know more about our business storytelling program. rosie@theboostglobal.com #leadership #charisma #communicationskills #communicationtraining #legacy

It got the desired effect: audience engagement and vocal responses, and it was completely improvised. I was clear about 👥who my audience was 💡what #impact I wanted to make on them, and 📖what #story I would tell them in order to do that. Instead of leaking energy recalling a memorised script, I had my story locked down. That left me with enough bandwidth to show up authentically, endear myself to the audience, gain their trust and yes - even improvise in a foreign language. Ten years ago, I would have stepped away from the podium a nervous, sweaty wreck, uncertain if anybody had even understood what I had just presented. What changed? 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗜 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. Empathy is a leadership superpower that can cut through any and all considerations, even language barriers, with true intention backed by empathy. It transcends differences, and can cause true transformational change. Purposeful empathy causes a true understanding between people. I honed this skill during my time living in Japan for 5 years, where I had to navigate a completely different language, culture, and customs. With survival at stake, I learned rapidly the tools that work and those that don't. This is what I talk about- experiential certainty. Empathy as a secret weapon reduces distance and increases affinity between 2 or more people.
