Our number 1 prediction by our Jan 24 panel event was pretty spot-on. We are already seeing the signs that some agents are burying their heads in the sand and underplaying the net impact on landlords and from this change in England. The net saving is dropping by a quarter which cements the case that ethical empty rates mitigation, by helping the charity sector, is the last best way and carries the favour of political and public sentiment. Earlier this year Nesta and BIT convened the first Policy Live, a new one-day public policy conference in Westminster ⚡ With over 350 attendees - from central and local government, think tanks, academia, and civil society - the event focused on tackling some of the big policy questions that the country faces today. Here are the key takeaways 👇

As CEO of a small charity and trustee of another I can identify with this article. The problem is big charities benefit from the premise,”that no one ever got got fired for buying IBM.” The strength of small charities is we generate more impact from the money we receive because we are agile, innovative and have lower overheads. Our weakness is we do not have the corporate structures of large charities. The sector needs a virtual network that links small high impact charities that gives the corporate governance structure they need to establish credibility with corporate and public funders.

I preface my comments by saying that I did NOT attend public or private schools. However, I have always defended theircharitable status as I oppose changes to charity law. At the moment the advancement of education is viewed as a charitable purpose. A full list is here https://lnkd.in/eQdSEpAv. I belueve that if a government can restrict this list then a future Government could remove charitable charities such as PEEC or XbyX Bromley based on political ideology or objectives. So I hope that Labour will not, as the current government has done waste billions in legal fees, to force through the policy of taxing of taxing private schools. Or even worse throw the teddy from the pram withdrawing from theECHr. Which, protects or liberty to live life as we chose, without undue government intereference. In any I suspect charging VAT on the fees Universities receive from overseas students would yield more money for the treasury.

In the current society the majority of us need money to SURVIVE - I do because Insulin is not FREE, and as a Diabetic I would DIE unless someone have mercy on my soul and help me. In the current situation the PLandemic and the "elite" stealing, have caused most people unable to help despite the fact that most people would.
