Moving to Japan? You can rent an apartment (if you can find one that will lease to foreigners), but you'll need a one year lease, a guarantor, deposits, security fees, agents fees, and thank you money. Or you can move into a share house and rent by the week or month. Share houses vary in size from a handful of residents in a house to 50+ people in a dorm-like building. Some are social, some are not. Prices can be much lower than apartments in the area, but not always. Alexander Chen reviews the good and bad of 4 share houses where he's lived in Azabu-Juban, Takanawa, and Shinagawa Tokyo, and Sakyo-ku, Kyoto to highlight the differences you'll find. https://lnkd.in/dDzjkgsh

🗾𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘁. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻.🗾 There’s a spirit in everything, our tour guide tells us, every person, every plant, every animal, even rocks and inanimate objects hold a spirit that deserves to be honored. His grandmother told him when he was a little boy, that there is a beautiful princess spirit living in the toilet. To keep her happy, he had to clean his toilet every day. And so he did. In Japan, public spaces are not spaces that are owned and run by an amorphous entity of government. Public spaces are “our” spaces, because we are the “public” and hence we all share responsibility to keep them pleasant and appealing. 𝗜𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: What if we all treated our common properties as things we share responsibility for rather than things we are owed and are entitled to exploit? What would our parks, trains & buses, footpaths - - - cities (!!!) look like, if we treated them all like our own spaces? Treated them as if there were a beautiful spirit living within each of them? (In researching for this post, I came across this marvelous post about The Toilet God. https://lnkd.in/df4EjtRV Seems there are lots and lots of Grandmas telling their kids stories!) #japanmusings #culture #worklife (Link to the pilot post with why, whatfor and disclaimer in the comments.)

Errrmmmm.... I mean IF this is the only view of Mt Fuji, yeah sure, cheap tourism shows us why we can't have good things. No, this is one cheapo convenient way of getting an unapproved shot of Mt Fuji that has caused traffic jams, overcrowding and inconvenience. There are other cheapo ways but less convenient or less known. And there are other convenient ways and not so cheapo. I am sure if you wanted to hike 3 km, there are great spots to take Mt Fuji on a clear day. (If the weather is socked in, it does not matter where you are. You can't get a good shot.) So if you are upset that the view is blocked, YOU are probably one of the tourists and part of the problem.
Thanks, Tourists. Views of Mt. Fuji Are Now Blocked

😊🤭🤫😱 In response to the universe's incapability to find me a position with salary, benefits, and growth, I am changing my resume & CV to this from now on... "Have you ever had to negotiate in Arabic? It is very difficult." "And try getting into Kiss Kiss Tokyo without a lock of human hair." ++++++++ Me: Did I ever tell you about the two months I spent on a yacht in the Mediterranean with Barron Trump? No? 🤭🤫 ++++++++ From Reddit: It3000: A lock of human hair is the price of admission. And it better be good hair. SiliconOverdrive: Kiss Kiss is a real nightclub in Japan, but you don’t actually need a “lock of human hair” to get in. The point of the line was just to reinforce the Alexis’ character as a globetrotting socialite who frequents exclusive destinations, yet lacks many of the basic skills and experiences most “normal” people take for granted. The “lock of human hair” part has no special meaning other than its comedic value as a preposterous requirement of admission into a nightclub. ++++++++ Stefan!!!!
Day 14 of the Advent Calendar of Alexis's Adventures "Anyway, I have lots of skills that you don't have." "I am sure that you do." "Like, have you ever had to negotiate in Arabic? It is very difficult." "I believe you." "And try getting into Kiss Kiss in Tokyo without a lock of human hair." (Estate Sale - 204) #adventcalendarofalexisadventures #schittscreek *** This year's Advent calendar is all a

Kyoto, Japan ++ [destination places/ cozy city spaces/ human scale] "Kyoto is a sublime, spiritual experience; a city that has the rich culture of a major metropolis and the quiet intimacy of a small town. -- There's no denying that when most people think of the most beautiful city in Japan, Kyoto is the first that comes to mind. It is a city rich in culture, abundant in cuisine, and populated with traditionally built buildings and magnificent temples." photo: Fuji Fuji
