Feel it on the first!!!! Hey hey! Today is March 1, which means you are seeing my monthly PSA reminding you to check your body for lumps, bumps, dimples, or changes. Cancer is indiscriminate and doesn't care about your age, race, class, job, religion, family status, or anything else. Knowing your body and checking it monthly increases your likelihood of early detection, and early detection saves lives. In addition to monthly self-exams, keep your regular medical screening appointments, get your mammograms, and advocate for yourself. If you feel something isn't right, demand more testing and get second opinions. Sometimes, people are dismissed for being "too young" or "not typical" for certain types of cancer like breast cancer. Advocate for yourself; there is no such thing as being too young or not typical. And men, this is for you, too. Check your parts every month! If you have questions or would like support, please DM me. #breastcancer #earlydetection #earlydetectionsaveslives #advocacy #selfadvocacy #feelitonthefirst

On January 2nd, I found a lump in my breast. By Jan 5th, we knew it was 5 cm and 'of significance.' It would be 30 days from finding the lump to finding out it is not cancerous. 30 days. 30 days of wondering, trying not to worry, and keeping it together daily. But the truth is, I am the lucky one. I understand the privilege afforded by my race, gender, and ability to pay. These are just two examples... - Black patients were found to have a significantly longer time to first breast cancer treatment (35.5 days vs. 28.1 days) compared to White patients. [Source: https://lnkd.in/gCQ-D2db] - Screening guidelines for ciswomen frequently change, but when it comes to detection and early screening for transgender and non-binary people, they are almost entirely out of the picture because data is scarce - and recommendations are not well known. [Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gVC-CdxY] Health is the ultimate inequity. Health is what happens between doctor appointments. Health is just the starting point... This #worldhealthday, I recognize and work towards a more equitable future. #health

As we close out October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month I encourage you to think about this… How many important women are in your life? Your family members… Your dear friends… How many women do you encounter each day? Your neighbors… Your coworkers… Perfect strangers you see in passing… How about your Facebook friends… How many are women? Which ladies will be the 1 in 8 diagnosed with breast cancer? No one deserves a critical illness of any sort but 1 in 8 is a staggering statistic for women in the US. Early detection and advancements in research and treatment are key to making a difference in the lives of the 1 in 8 women and the family and friends who love them. So be proactive with your health… Encourage your moms. sisters, daughters and friends to be proactive with their health… And when given the opportunity to contribute your time, your talents or your resources to responsible organizations focused on supporting those in the fight… those in need of resources during their fight… those involved in research… and those lobbying for changes in the products we use and the foods we consume… Open your hearts… And open your wallets… Sheri Long Lori Schwichtenberg #breastcancerawareness #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #breastcancersurvivor #breastcancerwarrior #breastcanceradvocate #educateandadvocate #pinkoctober
