In Canada, approximately 4,500 people die by suicide annually, with men accounting for about 75% of these deaths. The suicide rate among men is three times higher than among women, largely due to societal factors such as stigma around seeking mental health support and reliance on more lethal methods. Middle-aged men are particularly at risk, and this makes up nearly half of male suicides. In Alberta, the data are similar. According to Alberta Health Services, suicide rates are equally high, with men disproportionately affected. Men from indigenous communities and LGBTQ+ groups face higher suicide rates, among others. If you or someone you know is struggling, resources like Talk Suicide Canada (1-833-456-4566) and Alberta’s 24/7 mental health support line (1-877-303-2642) are available for assistance. Happy International Men's Day. #MentalHealthMatters

According to a recent three-year review led by the Centre for Mental Health, NHS Mental Health care could transform through voluntary sector partnerships. The NHS is recommended to strengthen its partnerships with the voluntary and community sector to enhance mental health care. The report highlighted the positive impact of 'alliances' established by Rethink Mental Illness in various regions, allowing services to be tailored by individuals with lived experiences. This approach aims to make mental health services more effective and accessible, ensuring that marginalised groups like LGBTQ+ and racialised communities are not overlooked. However, the sector's full potential is hindered by uncertainties surrounding long-term funding, including insecure contracts and bureaucratic processes. #mentalhealth

👁️See children playing? Look again! Behind the smile is a #MentalHealthCrisis 😩On #WorldMentalHealthDay, I must share the facts: 🚨1 in 6 of 5-16 year olds have a probable mental health problem. Source: YoungMinds 🚨30% of our 16-24 year olds reported some evidence of depression or anxiety. Source: Mind 🚨Nearly 25% of young women reported experiencing a mental health problem in any given week! Source: Mind 🤔As I reflect on a panel , I was honoured to take part in, at the Labour Party Conference with Luciana Berger , Rosie Wrighting MP and Alex Ballinger MP, we discussed how the government can tackle the youth mental health crisis. 💻Social Media and responsible evidence based content can deliver benefit but legistlation is inescapable to enforce safety online. ➡️Entire shifts in welfare and equality are needed, to combat homelessness, poverty, gender/ ethnic / religious/ LGBTQ+ discrimination and much more. ➡️As a society, the voluntary sector must be championed , funded and celebrated to deliver services, where healthcare services cannot, in collaboration and unison. An example is Shout UK by Victoria Hornby OBE and her team. Demographics like age, sexuality, and veteran status significantly impact suicide rates. Young people face pressures from social media and bullying, while older adults struggle with isolation and health issues. LGBTQ+ individuals have higher rates due to discrimination, and veterans face PTSD and reintegration challenges worsened by mental health stigma. Targeted interventions and community support are essential to address these disparities. #SuicidePreventionMonth #healthbenefits #transparency #valuebasedhealthcare #suicideawareness

We all have a role in preventing suicide. Here's how we can help: Raise Awareness: Educate people about mental health to reduce stigma. Community programs and support groups can encourage open conversations and provide emotional support. Improve Access to Mental Health Services: Increase mental health care, especially in rural areas. Promote suicide prevention helplines to offer immediate help. Provide Financial and Social Support: Implement debt relief programs and create job opportunities to ease stress and provide stability. Support Students: Introduce counseling and career guidance in schools to help students manage academic pressure. Empower Women: Promote gender equality, support victims of domestic violence, and challenge harmful cultural norms. Together, we can make a difference and create a supportive community for everyone. #suicide #depression #stress #prevention #mentalhealth #awareness #lifecoach #indutomarlifecoach

More than 20% of teens have seriously considered suicide. Today’s episode I’ll be covering teen anxiety and effective parenting. I’ll be sharing what I believe to be critical insight and strategy to help navigate this troubling issue among the youth in the US. listen here 🎙https://lnkd.in/eiJxaTFK Also available on Spotify A troubling pattern is on the rise in adolescents across the country: increasing rates of suicide, with youth of color and LGBTQ+ youth most affected—all against a backdrop of teens reporting high levels of hopelessness, sadness, loneliness, and suicidal ideation. A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) looking at mental health and suicidal behaviors from 2011 to 2021 indicates that 13% of high school girls had attempted suicide (30% had seriously considered it). That jumped to more than 20% for LGBTQ+ teens (45% had seriously considered it) (Youth Risk Behavior Survey Data Summary and Trends Report: 2011–2021). #veronicacisneros #executivecoach #empoweredwomen #empowerx #empoweredandunapologetic #outsidethenormcounseling #womenempoweringwomen #femaleleaders #executivewomen #marriagetherapist #couplestherapist #couplescounselor #highachiever #womenempoweringwomen #Femaleleaders #executivewomen #momlife #momblog #motherhoodunplugged #motherhood #momtruth #teenanxiety #teenmentalhealth #LGBTQmentalhealth #teendepression

On World Suicide Prevention Day, it is crucial to reflect on the pressing issue of youth suicide in the UK, especially in London where young people face significant mental health challenges. The most recent data reveals a concerning rise in suicide rates —the highest rate since 1999. Young people, especially those under 35, continue to be heavily affected, and suicide remains one of the leading causes of death in this age group. Among the most affected groups are young men and LGBTQ+ youth, who face disproportionate rates of mental health struggles. Charities like PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide estimate an average of five young people are taking their lives each day. At Spark!, we recognise the importance of being there for young people—not just through words, but through tangible actions. Our mission to empower young people extends beyond employability. We want to foster environments where they feel truly listened to, supported, and connected. By offering compassionate and attentive support, we can create safer spaces for open conversations and intervention before it’s too late. Let’s stand together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and ensure that every young person knows they are not alone. #BeThere #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #YouthSupport #MentalHealthMatters

Sharing from Prevent Child Abuse America In observance of Pride Month, we are highlighting a study co-authored by PCA America’s Chief Strategy Officer, Jennifer Jones, published in the Journal of LGBT Youth. This research explores the protective factors that are associated with reduced substance use and depression among gender-minority teens. Key Findings: Supportive Policies Matter: Policies that foster financial stability, a sense of community, and connections to caring adults significantly reduce the risk of depression and substance use among gender minority teens. Critical Role of School and Community: A strong sense of belonging in school and community environments is crucial in mitigating mental health challenges for these youths. Risk Factors: Gender minority teens face higher exposure to risk factors such as bias-based bullying, peer victimization, and homelessness, which significantly impact their mental health and substance use. Together, we can create safer, healthier futures for all children and families by addressing these critical factors. 📊 Read the full study: https://lnkd.in/gskk6t2b #ChildWellbeing #SupportivePolicies #MentalHealthMatters #PreventChildAbuse #PCAAmerica #ResearchUpdate #PrideMonth
