Across our six manufacturing locations around the world, we have 11 plants which run 24/7 while producing methanol. To ensure that they continue to operate efficiently and safely, for our employees, for the environment, and for our communities, we need to run regular maintenance. While some activities can be completed at any time, there are a few critical activities that require us to take a plant offline. Each plant comes down for about a month every four to five years so that we can complete turnarounds. Turnarounds are major maintenance events that allow us to complete maintenance, inspection, testing and upgrades on equipment and systems, as well as to change catalysts and execute capital projects, including those that enhance reliability and reduce process safety risk. Since hundreds of workers are involved and hundreds of thousands of work hours go into these maintenance events, safety is of the utmost importance. In 2023, Methanex continued to drive strong safety performance through three major turnaround projects around the globe. All three turnarounds achieved solid safety performance by focusing on proactive and consistent safety behaviours. Refineries are highly complex processing plants with significant interconnections, a range of products that can be produced and feedstocks available. Identifying processing options that have economic improvement potential requires chemical engineering talent but defining executable projects requires a range of Engineering and Design disciplines. An excellent and current example that I am excited to talk about is a project that Primoris Engineering recently studied for a North American Refinery exploring increasing gasoline production. The result was a project with a payback of less than two years. Two key features of the work was the optimization of the flow scheme and plant layout to reduce costs.
