Current Affairs I. In male-dominated #Iranian politics, a woman has emerged as a kingmaker. Madam Azar Mansouri is among the most prominent leaders in Iran's reformist movement which backed HE Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, the President-elect. Arash Azizi writes "Ms Mansouri’s influence in Iranian politics can be best illustrated by a phone call she received from interim President HE Mohammad Mokhber, who sought to assuage her concerns about any electoral irregularities. It is this level of influence that could well secure her a position in Dr Pezeshkian’s cabinet – perhaps even as a vice president." Do Read: https://lnkd.in/e-tbh39H II. Elections in the West are a sign to the #MiddleEast to resolve issues internally - by Omar Al-Ubaydli “With the US's role diminishing in the region, particularly after its invasion of Iraq and its handling of the Gaza war, fewer people in the Middle East are expecting Washington or its European counterparts to help resolve the conflicts in Gaza, Libya, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, and elsewhere. Another message emerging from the think-tank circuit is that it is now incumbent upon the Middle Eastern countries to show more initiative in resolving their internal conflicts.” The quadrillion question is can they, will they? The Indian Express investigated over 2,500 land registries across 25 villages near Ram temple since the SC verdict of 2019 — and found many purchases linked to politicians, senior officials and their relatives. As an emerging religious destination to meet the needs of pilgrims, hotels, residences, businesses and a host of infrastructure facilities are needed. So the development is necessary. Do follow Ram Ji's values in his land. But in all the development with booming real state and businesses emerging are the local people benefiting from it. “As the West loses its hegemonic grip on the world, Iran’s power and influence continue to grow. In the face of such resistance, the West typically brands its opponents as ‘extremists’ while those who are pro-western are described as ‘moderates’,” writes policy analyst Massoud Hedeshi. IRAN's upcoming 2024 elections are a significant event, shaped by a complex political history and evolving socio-political dynamics. #Iran's political landscape has been profoundly influenced by the 1979 #Islamic Revolution, which established the Islamic Republic under the leadership of #Ayatollah_Khomeini, replacing the Shah's monarchy. This revolution entrenched theocratic governance, with significant power vested in the Supreme Leader and the Guardian Council, which oversees elections and candidate qualifications. The political framework in Iran allows for elected bodies, such as the President and the Parliament (#Majlis), yet these are often influenced by non-elected entities. The #Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988) and subsequent years of political consolidation further entrenched the theocratic and revolutionary ideals within the state apparatus. Currently, Iran faces significant internal and external pressures. Economic hardship, exacerbated by international sanctions primarily due to its nuclear program, has led to widespread public discontent. The 2022 protests, sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody, highlighted deep-rooted frustrations with socio-economic issues and governance. Key political players in the 2024 elections include the conservative Principlists, often aligned with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali #Khamenei, and the Reformists, who advocate for more socio-political freedoms and engagement with the international community. The death of President #Ebrahim_Raisi has added uncertainty to the political landscape, with various factions vying for power and influence. Other influential figures and clerics will also play crucial roles in shaping the election outcomes. Internationally, the 2024 elections are closely watched. Western nations, particularly the US and EU, view these elections as a potential turning point for Iran's nuclear negotiations and regional policies. The outcome will significantly influence Iran's future trajectory, impacting its internal stability and international relations. The global community remains cautious but hopeful for a more open and reform-oriented Iran post-elections.

Will Jamaat-e-Islami find a lasting role in Bangladesh's political system? "It is unlikely that the Jamaat will achieve a significant victory in the upcoming election or form a government. However, it will probably be one of the main opposition parties. In terms of political power, it is a formidable force and will play an important role in the new political dimension of the country. As the Jamaat navigates its newfound role in Bangladesh’s shifting political landscape, the question remains: Can it shed its controversial past to secure a lasting place in Bangladesh’s political future?".............Asif Bin Ali Published by The Week Magazine

The article discusses the need for balance and decentralization of power in Bangladesh. It critiques the excessive authority of the Prime Minister, which has resulted in a pseudo-monarchical system. The author advocates for direct elections for both the President and Vice President, a bi-cameral parliamentary system, and an independent judiciary to ensure effective checks and balances. Decentralizing power to local governments is emphasized as essential for promoting inclusive governance. The proposed reforms aim to address corruption, nepotism, and authoritarianism, ultimately fostering a more democratic and transparent governance structure in Bangladesh. https://lnkd.in/gUaKcUCX

Andrea Lawful-Sanders, an RJ at WURD radio in Philadelphia who conducted the first interview with none other than the US President Mr. Joe Biden following the president’s woeful 27 June debate performance has resigned from her job. If media persons in the Global South & especially Godi media in India are wondering why? The "Lawful" lady broke media’s basic rule & taking responsibility she resigned. She admitted that she asked the president a handful of questions supplied by his aides & violated the station’s editorial independence by accepting questions supplied by Biden’s team. May be Pops team did not want to tax his brain, so they fixed it which is mostly the standard practice of Political leaders in developing countries. It’s good for image management, you know you got to look intellectual & be at ease with issues of the time. Health is a personal sensitive matter so will not add my commentary on it. Since divine intervention is not happening Pops I recommend a short retreat by the river side to think through or better seek advice from your friend in India (the land of Babas), who claims to be not biological & an avatar of God. Democrats or Republicans, its rotating chairs, America will remain America. If Republicans come, America may look more inwards, which will be good for America & the World. Mr. Trump is already softening his stand on some issues that divides America. If we compare this US Media incident with the state of media independence in India today all thinking people would say “Koi Lauta Dey Merey Beetey Huvey Din.” In Indian Godi Media objectivity is long lost. They all have become Government mouthpieces for some financial gain & the reporting & debate makes one laugh at the sorry state of affairs. TV is very popular but as a one way medium anchors have license to say anything they like. Me thinks the whole programming and messages served daily are designed for an un-intelligent audience. The politics of Azerbaijan take place in an dictatorship system where elections are not free and fair, political opponents are either repressed or killed, civil rights are limited to nonexistent. human rights abuses are widespread, corruption is rampant, and power is concentrated in the hands of dictator Ilham Aliyev and to his extended corrupted family. Azerbaijan is nominally a semi-presidential republic, with the President of Azerbaijan as the head of state, and the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan as head of government. Executive power is exercised by the president and the government. Checks and balances are nominally ensured by the legislature (Azerbaijan's National Assembly) and the Judiciary, but both institutions are in practice firmly controlled by dictator Aliyev. The politics of Azerbaijan have since 1969 been dominated by the dictatorship of Aliyev family. Heydar Aliyev governed Soviet Azerbaijan from 1969 to 1982 as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan, and as President of Azerbaijan from 1993 to 2003 after seizing power in the aftermath of a bloodbath 1993 military coup. Ilham Aliyev, Heydar's son, was installed as president in 2003 as the supreme dictator of Azerbaijan. Basically, the average Azeri’s live under a brutal dictatorship, while Aliyev vassals, live well. #azerbaijannews #azerbaijangovernment #azerbaijaninvestmentholding #azerbaijangasprojects #azerbaijanpresident #baku #bp #britishpetroleum #azerbaijannationalassembly #eugoverment #eucommission #europeaninvestmentbank #usdepartmentofstate #uscongress #ussenate #wallstreetjournal #washingtonpost #cnn #abcnews #cbsnews #nbcnews #foxnews #ewtn #aol #independentnews #israelnews #israelgovernment #telavivnews #azerinews #Eurasianet #freearmenisnprisoners
