Mental Health and Yoga Life can be challenging in many ways. We all experience stressful times either at work or in our private lives, mental load or just the pressure we sometimes feel looking at what is going on in the world around us. But then, there are also times when everything seems to be straightforward, easy, clear, under control and manageable, even fun and full of joy. Sometimes, the difference is not so much driven by changes in the external environment but by being in a different mental state: more relaxed, resilient and at ease. For me, Yoga is the way to relax and release stress and tension in day to day life. What makes Yoga so unique for me is the combination of breath, gaze and posture. Each single movement is synchronized with in- or exhalation, while a focused gaze is connected with each posture. Concentrating on breath, gaze and posture does not leave any space for everyday thoughts. Today, 21st of June, the UN proclaimed International Yoga Day is celebrated. And our employers are so conditioned not to intervene - not to see that appropriate intervention can help their bottom line - because a negatively stressed environment- that produces what we see below- is not a productive environment. But, an environment that promotes balance - that recognizes that need - with destressing techniques - produces bottom line success. When will the business community get this?
