: 🌍 Realizing the Importance of Timely Action and Knowledge Sharing 🌍 Often, I’ve noticed that many of us struggle to take timely actions. We say we’ll do something, we set goals, but we don’t always follow through. This isn’t just a personal observation; it’s a pattern I’ve seen repeatedly. This challenge is particularly noticeable in rural areas, where people work hard but often miss the right direction due to a lack of guidance and knowledge. In today’s world, dedication alone isn’t enough—knowing how to channel it is essential. Imagine if we could bridge this gap. Imagine if we, collectively, found a way to bring knowledge and guidance to every child, everywhere. Together, we could create opportunities for those who need them the most. 💡 Let’s make a difference. Let’s bring knowledge and opportunities to every corner of society. The things to consider

I've come to the season of life where I'm circling back to what I know to be true. It's hard to self promote without growing our selfishness, so I've been loathe to lean into this season of thought partnership and radical transformation through love and commitment to budding out of the cocoon. Expect to see a lot of learning opportunities in the coming days, but let's start with the basics: The Virtues Project Five Strategies have so much to offer in support of social transformation. As we hone our individual character and capacities, we open up pathways for envisioning so much more. Let's GROW! Learn five strategies that will help you bring out the best in yourself and others. Learn new ways to honor and nurture the nobility and potential in every person: our children and youth, partners and family, community and colleagues. Explore how these qualities catalyze personal and collective transformation and apply them to your work and lives. This workshop will be in person in Baltimore in 2 weeks. I'm priming just priming the pump and hope to host reflection spaces as well as trainings and refreshers for enthusiasts here in Baltimore and beyond. https://lnkd.in/e7iSPHEs to register https://lnkd.in/eSr4WXKf to follow and see what else is coming up. I came across an image recently suggesting “we must categorize people as 'colleagues', 'classmates', 'old school mates', 'neighbors' or 'clients”, with the message that not everyone is really a “friend”. While there's truth in being discerning about the nature of our various relationships, I'd propose a different take! What if, instead of putting people in transactional boxes, we approached all our connections with an open and caring spirit? Every classmate, colleague and acquaintance is a unique individual with inherent worth, hopes and struggles, just like us. By treating people as humans first, and roles second, we open doors to deeper understanding and more meaningful ties. Some connections may remain casual, and that's okay. But if we engage others with genuine interest, kindness and willingness to both give and receive support, we create potential for relationships to blossom in organic and enriching ways. We're all navigating this complex world together. In the end, not every contact may become a close friend. But by leading with empathy, respect and goodwill in all our interactions, both personal and professional, we invest in a network of positive relationships that uplift our days, expand our perspectives, and remind us of the core humanity connecting us all. And that's a worthwhile pursuit. Let me know your thoughts on this?

In her post-athletic career, Mary Lou Retton pivoted toward sharing the philosophies behind her success, including the power of positivity. Maintaining a can-do attitude is contagious, and will attract opportunity, joy, and the kind of people who can boost us up. Today is National Day of Encouragement – Today is dedicated to uplifting people around us and making a positive impact. Encouragement is free. It never costs us anything to say a few words to inspire a student, coworker, or friend. Even a reassuring word to a stranger may make a difference in their lives. As educators and support staff, you are valued & needed. Encouragement lifts someone when they are down. It also motivates a person who has an eye on a goal. When we have failed, the right words remind us to keep trying. The right message may create a spark that changes a loved one's perspective. You encourage students, parents, & staff every day with your smile, the dedication to your craft, and positive energy – THANK YOU!! #NationalDayOfEncouragement #BeEncouraged #YoureExcellent #thankyouforallyouDO

JOY at work: If knowledge is a gift, how motivational is it to have your gift of knowledge received well? We've all heard that knowledge is a gift, but perhaps we haven't all thought about the motivational impact on individuals when their gift is welcomed or rejected. It hurts when years of hard work, experience, personal investment in knowledge to make you you isn't welcomed. Why? When we exchange gifts, it creates an emotional bond from a shared experience - we know when a gift we have chosen is the right one as the receiver shows emotions, and we share in that experience - we can also see when it hasn't gone down well. The more we invest (time, trouble, effort) in a gift, the higher the intrinsic value we place on it. We invest years in our professional development, in the role we chose for ourselves, to be the best version of ourselves. This means we give a large part of ourselves when we offer others the gift of our knowledge. Not being well received for who we are and have dedicated ourself to be goes to the very heart of belonging. We are social creatures, we need the support of others and our brain is wired to crave belonging for who we are and what we contribute. It is core to our well-being. As Madonna kinda sang … 🎶 ‘We Are Living In A Neurotypical World .. and I am an Atypical Girl …’ 🎶 Thank you Harriet Richardson 😃 Your phenomenal visuals really hit the spot again! Removing barriers and asking for adjustments is an internal process too. Being able to recognise the need for support and communicate these needs is so vital to wellbeing and not an easy process: It’s a journey to remove expectations (and judgements) self-imposed, to develop self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-compassion having often journeyed for so many years - often making great efforts to Perform and Achieve - as if our profiles weren’t spikey, and in accordance with personal aspirations & internalised external expectations. It’s a huge learning process to discover and develop * our passions, skills and abilities - beyond the limitations of environments and assessments designed to test fish to climb trees & ‘wiggly paths’ (educational / career) resulting * the confidence to be able to identify and articulate our needs and request adjustments that would remove or reduce barriers experienced when attempting to access environments (educational / work place settings, social, etc), demonstrate and use our fantabulous skill sets. * the ability to communicate in ways that are comfortable, the need for Reasonable Adjustments required in order to do access and demonstrate settings (educational and workplace) and to thrive on the journey towards discovering and demonstrating our often-unique and impressive skills and abilities.

Exploring abundant resources provided to our clients The primary purpose of this outing is to enlighten the client about the multitude of resources available to them within the community. It introduces them to essential facilities such as the local library and the computer lab situated within it. This educational experience aims to broaden their awareness of these valuable assets. The impact of this outing on the client is profound. By acquainting them with these resources, they gain the knowledge of where and how to access vital services. This newfound awareness opens doors to opportunities like job applications and internet access, which are integral in today’s digital age. It empowers them with the tools needed to enhance their lives. The ultimate outcome of this outing is the empowerment of clients to become more self-sufficient. They not only discover where to find books and the internet but also understand that they possess the capability to utilize these resources independently. This knowledge equips them with a sense of self-reliance, ensuring that they know where to turn when they require books for education or the internet for various purposes. It fosters a sense of confidence and self-sufficiency in navigating the resources available to them in their community. https://bit.ly/3SHGGt7 #ResourceExploration #EmpowerThroughKnowledge #SelfSufficiencyJourney #CommunityAwareness #ResourceEmpowerment

What an interesting time to be alive. Political ideology aside. There are so many opportunities to bring up the next generation of leaders, in the transit community. Rapid expansion and technology developments will require a different type of technician in the future, and we have the opportunity to set the course for this next generation to be exceptional. We can "grow our own" if we are willing to invest the time and effort in setting a strategic direction, putting processes in place and providing a work environment that allows everyone to be the best version of themselves. It will require US to rethink how we approach training, both technical and professional development. How we recruit, finding those pockets of under-represented potential and sometimes rolling the dice on someone by giving them the opportunity to try. I have a vision of what this may look like, time will tell but I have the opportunity at Community Transit to explore, develop and implement a program worthy of the next generation. What an interesting time to be alive!
