🌿 GO SUPRA BIOLIVA Project: Innovation in the Olive Sector 🌿 On September 19th, the GO SUPRA BIOLIVA project, an R&D initiative that promises to transform the olive sector, was presented at the National Agro-Food Technological Center of Extremadura (CTAEX). This project, where AZCATEC Tecnología e Ingeniería participates as a partner and coordinator, aims to obtain high-value-added bioactive compounds from olive by-products. These compounds have significant health benefits, opening new opportunities in various sectors. During the event, our colleague Andrés García Zamora, R&D and Business Development Manager at AZCATEC, highlighted the project’s innovation and the creation of a portable and modular pilot plant, which will process by-products directly at the mills, using green solvents to reduce environmental impact. 🌍 This project, funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and supported by the Junta de Andalucía, reflects our strong commitment to sustainability and the development of innovative technologies that drive the circular economy in the olive sector. We are excited for what’s to come! 💡 #AZCATEC #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #OliveSector #Innovation #Biotechnology #GO_SUPRA_BIOLIVA

⚗ 🌿 The AVI Biofungate project has successfully concluded! Led by our R&D team as a partner, through Idai Nature, one of the 12 companies in the Rovensa Next business unit, the project developed an innovative encapsulation system for essential oils (EOs), which degrade easily in the environment and have biological activity against plant pathogens. Using mesoporous silica materials with biomolecular gates, the system releases EOs in a controlled way in the presence of pathogenic fungi. Two biocontrol solutions were formulated and validated in the field, showing great potential. Next steps involve optimizing the technology for industrial production and commercial scale-up. At #RovensaNext, we are committed to incorporating this #biosolution into our biocontrol portfolio. 💰 #BIOFUNGATE is co-financed by the Agència Valenciana de la Innovació (AVI) and eligible for co-financing by the EU through the FEDER Operational Program of the Valencian Community 2021-2027. 🏞 How to merge bioeconomy development with the digital transition? An innovative concept of E-bio business has been introduced by eRural resilience consortium. 👉 "One important common challenge in the EU is - how to merge bioeconomy development with the digital transition and reduce rural areas' depopulation? How to make Europe more competitive in the global market following the Green Deal goals," asks Līga Vecā, Member of the Board at Valmiera Development Agency In our project, eRural resilience consortium introducing the innovative concept of 'E-bio business'. ✅ We have defined E-bio business as conducting business activities in biotechnology or biological production over digital platforms. The concept can be divided into two key aspects: ✔ Bioeconomy involves using renewable feedstocks such as plants, animals, and microorganisms to sustainably produce goods and services. ✔ Digitalization refers to the adoption of digital technologies and processes across various aspects of business operations. These two concepts can be combined in different sectors of e-bio businesses, such as supply chain, marketing, retail, circular economy, and workforce skills. 👉 As explained by Leni Forsberg, representative of Centria University of Applied Sciences, leading the Bio-Knowledge Hub”: “In the context of the project, the term 'E-bio business' refers to businesses operating in rural areas that leverage renewable biological resources while integrating digitalization or digital tools. The term bridges the gap between renewable biological resources and digitalization, creating a more sustainable and efficient business model.” #bioeconomy #eruralresilience #MadeWithInterreg #InterregBSR

📢 The first Compostable Bioplastics Italian forum in Rome (12 JUNE 2024) Attending the "1° Forum Italiano delle Bioplastiche Compostabili" at the Ara Pacis in Rome was an enriching experience for our InnoDaBio team 🌍. Representing the University of Padova, I had the pleasure of attending alongside my esteemed colleagues, Prof. Alessandra Lorenzetti and Ms. Dominique Rocher, PhD Candidate of Università degli Studi di Padova at DAFNAE - Dip. di Agronomia, Animali, Alimenti, Risorse naturali e Ambiente - UniPD and co-founder of Urobo Biotech. This event, organized by Biorepack in partnership with the Consorzio Italiano Compostatori - CIC I and Assobioplastiche, gathered over 150 participants who share a commitment to advancing the bioplastics sector ♻. The forum provided a platform to highligh the industry's progress and the challenges it faces. Despite a slowdown in 2023 📉, the sector continues to innovate and expand. However, issues such as end-of-life challenges and misinformation remain significant obstacles ⚠. These challenges, if unaddressed, could undermine the sector’s potential growth and sustainability. The discussions emphasized the importance of comprehensive waste management strategies and the need for robust regulatory frameworks to support the bioplastics industry 📜. Notably, the forum underscored the critical role of collaboration among industry stakeholders and governmental bodies to foster a thriving and sustainable bioplastics ecosystem. Our team at InnoDaBio, a project funded by Fondazione Cariverona with the support of BTS Biogas | Impianti biogas e biometano and ETRA SpA Società benefit is dedicated to contributing to this dialogue, leveraging our expertise in advanced materials and sustainable practices 🔬. We firmly believe that bioplastics will play a pivotal role in the transition towards a more sustainable future 🌱, provided that we integrate advanced waste management solutions into the lifecycle of these materials. Special thanks to all the distinguished speakers and organizers for an insightful and productive forum. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with industry and academic partners to drive innovation and sustainability in the bioplastics sector 🤝. #Bioplastics #Sustainability #Innovation #WasteManagement #InnoDaBio #UniversityofPadova #Biorepack #CircularEconomy

Recently, Biosolutions Technology Center – a new facility that supports Denmark's leading position in biosolutions – opened 🌾♻ With a focus on biorefining and biofermentation, the test and demonstration facilities are now accessible to the industry. - Danish companies can use Biosolutions Technology Center to progress from idea to market. Ultimately, this facilitates growth and job creation in Denmark. Biosolutions play a crucial role in the green transition, and the biotechnologies we know today can reduce what corresponds to 8% of the global emission of CO2, says Juan Farré, CEO at Teknologisk Institut. 💡 Biosolutions are one of the keys in the transition from fossil to bio-based economy. The methods enable the development of products in everything from food and feed to textiles and energy – often based on biological residues that would otherwise be wasted. The new pilot plant complements Danish Technological Institute's biorefinery plant. Here, we assist companies in developing new protein sources and bio-based packaging based on upcycled residual resources from agriculture. We look forward to welcoming SMEs at Biosolutions Technology Center, led by Anne Christine S. Hastrup. Thanks to Michael Ziegler, the mayor of Høje-Taastrup Kommune, and Lars Visbech Sørensen, CEO of Food & Bio Cluster Denmark, for their participation in the inauguration. #biosolutions #upcycling #fermentation #biorefinery #biomaterials
