Yesterday, Premier League clubs convened to discuss the Associated Party Transaction rules in light of the recent ruling in the case of Manchester City vs Premier League. The primary focus of the meeting was the Tribunal’s finding that shareholder loans must now be included within the scope of these rules. This decision could have major implications for football clubs as they work to ensure compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules. In this article, I explore the case, why the rules were initially introduced and what the future holds. 💸 I see Chelsea' spending as more than just ambition ⚠️ It’s a clear sign of the growing financial gap in football Big clubs with deep pockets are racing ahead Smaller clubs struggle to stay in the game Is this fair? ⚖️ Chelsea's $650 million spending shows how impossible it is for smaller clubs to compete The impact goes beyond the field. It affects the fairness of the sport UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules were supposed to create balance But the reality? It’s different Big clubs take advantage of the rules. Smaller clubs get penalized for minor infractions. This cycle keeps repeating Rich clubs buy the best talent, win more, and grow even richer Smaller clubs, like Brighton, lose their top players to wealthier teams So, what does this mean for us as agents? → Be strategic in guiding our players → Advocate for revenue sharing and a luxury tax to level the field → Invest in local talent to narrow the gap → Ensure players stay in the spotlight, not overshadowed by big-money deals Their future, and ours, depends on it Follow for more insights!

What a great insightful piece Jeffrey Steinberg. Canadian taxation of professional athletes and entertainers is complicated enough. It is crucial that players and their agents analyze tax implications of playing in Canada. #canadiantaxes #nba #mlb #nhl #cfp #athletefinances

The results of the #Tavares #CRA challenge, along with other cases involving professional athletes, may have far-reaching consequences for the Canadian sports industry. Failing to recruit top talent will undoubtedly result in a less competitive team. A decrease in event attendance by fans will have a significant negative impact on the numerous small businesses in the vicinity of the venues. #AthleteMoney #AthleteTax #Taxes #LevelThePlayingField

It always difficult to know what is an appropriate forum to call things out on is - but here goes: - If ever a press release went down like a lead balloon - it was this one from Aston Villa. For all the successes and excitement on the pitch, this couldn't have alienated an intensely passion and loyal fan base any further. Being 'Out of touch' and demonstrating a complete disconnect between the people and the place it represents is an understatement. We all understand the modern realities of sports finance but this is nothing more than exploiting loyal fans (customers). It’s a further demonstration that customer/consumer rights and protections are pretty non-existent in the UK - whether that be energy, water, dynamic pricing for gigs/concerts etc. As one of those very lucky people who follows the Club up and down the country most weeks, and across Europe, through the dark times and the good times, I feel a sense of sadness and disappointment. This year should have been a celebration of a 150-year-old institution that has a proud place in Birmingham, the region and across the world. But there is still plenty of time to listen to the fans (customers) and correct this gross error of judgement. So over to you Aston Villa Football Club:
