We have been named as one of ten pilots in a national community-led employment scheme called ‘JobsPlus’. Based on an American model which has a proven success record in increasing employment opportunities, JobsPlus uses a community focus and person-led approach to support people into employment or to find better employment opportunities. This type of support might include helping to explore job opportunities that match a person’s needs, developing interview skills and support with managing health conditions. Headed by JobsPlus Manager Sally Ross, the Magenta Living pilot is supporting those in Bidston Rise, North Birkenhead, and aims to help people in the area move closer to employment. We're committed to support all of our customers with employability needs through a range of services such as Inspiring Dreams, Live & Learn and Magenta Learning Fund. Now with the introduction of the JobPlus pilot, we are able to provide even more specialised support to the residents of Bidston Rise. #JobsPlus #EmploymentSupport #Employability

Last Friday was “National Tradesmen Day”. Celebrated annually on the 3rd Friday of September, National Tradesmen Day was created in 2011 by Irwin Industrial Tools, “to celebrate all that they do to contribute so meaningfully to our lives in so many ways”. It’s a day for appreciating and honoring the men and women who build and develop our country’s infrastructure, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that Tradespeople are the reason our county keeps running. Without these skilled professionals, our homes and commercial buildings would fall into disrepair, or never have been built in the first place. The roads on which we drive, and their maintenance which we take for granted, would cease to function. We would have no clean water, or controllable plumbing, heating, ventilation, or electricity. We would very quickly be living with the technology and accommodations which we moved away from hundreds of years ago. During the Pandemic, Tradesmen were considered “Essential Workers”, with good reason. Without their knowledge, expertise, and efforts, we would be living in a much less safe and sanitary world than we do now. Last week, we had the opportunity to visit the Playford site in SA that one of the Doorways workers strongly advocated for, encouraging us to see firsthand the impact of the work being done. Walking through the space, speaking with the staff and volunteers really brought to life the progress being made. It’s one thing to review reports and data, but another entirely to immerse ourselves in the environment where the work is actually happening. In this evaluation, the national site visits have been invaluable. They offer us deeper insights and nuances that can sometimes be missed in documentation. By seeing the strengths of a site that’s thriving, we’re also able to reflect on what might be missing in places that aren’t working as well. These visits not only validate what’s working but provide context that informs a more holistic understanding. It's a reminder that there is always something to learn from success stories and real-world observations.
