🚧 Boost Safety in Highways Construction with Hazard Control Measures 🚧 In highways construction, safety is not just a priority—it's a necessity. Understanding and applying the hierarchy of hazard control can make a significant difference in your project’s safety and efficiency. Here’s a quick breakdown: 🔹 Elimination: The gold standard—remove hazards entirely. 🔹 Substitution: Replace dangerous materials or processes with safer alternatives. 🔹 Engineering Controls: Design or modify environments to reduce risks. 🔹 Administrative Controls: Implement strong policies and procedures. 🔹 PPE: Your last line of defence, but crucial nonetheless. At AKN Engineering Ltd, we’re committed to integrating these measures into every project we manage. Ready to take your safety protocols to the next level? 👉 Read more via the below post below, and let’s build safer highways together! https://lnkd.in/d9aKzYY3 #ConstructionBlog #HazardControl #HealthAndSafety #HighwaysConstruction #SiteEngineersUK #UKSiteEngineer #LondonEngineers #SouthEastEngineers

🗝️ Key terms of the National Construction Code (NCC) - Verification Methods Verification Methods are tests, inspections, calculations or other methods, which determine whether a proposed building solution or plumbing and drainage solution complies with the relevant Performance Requirements. Verification Methods are not limited to using those in the NCC. 💻 For more information on Verification Methods, see the explanatory information in Part A2 Compliance with the NCC here: https://lnkd.in/gNs7WY2w #KeyTerms #VerificationMethods #NCC

After years pondering safety theories while working in low-risk industries, I’ve now transitioned to high-risk construction with Risk Factors Australia. Observing the intricacies of high-risk construction work has reinforced a simple truth: safety done right is what matters. Theory has its place, but practical, well-implemented safety measures save lives. #riskfactors

WIR in Quality (Construction) : What is a Work Inspection Request? A Work Inspection Request is a formal document submitted by a contractor to initiate inspections of completed construction projects. The primary objective is to ensure that the work complies with specified standards, building codes, and quality criteria. The WIR should also include a description of the work to be inspected, any special requirements, and any safety precautions that must be taken during the inspection. #QUALITY #CONSTRUCTION #ENGINERING

The Competence Steering Group’s latest report urges the construction industry to embrace new safety standards post-Grenfell. “A Higher Bar – Achieving a Competence-led Built Environment” highlights significant strides in improving skills and behaviours for safer buildings. Key milestones include national competence standards, PAS standards for regulated roles, and frameworks for individual disciplines. The report also influenced government policy, making competence a requirement across all projects. Find out more: https://bit.ly/3ONnSGv #ConstructionSafety #CompetenceStandards #BuildingSafety

Changes to NYC Building Code… On December 11, 2024, Local Law 147 of 2021 will be implemented and will mandate that certain Projects will now be subject to new Site Safety requirements. Local Law 147 revises the definition of a “major building” from a building that is 10 or more stories to a building that is 7 or more stories, and from a building 125 feet or more in height to a building 75 feet or more in height. As a result, we will see a drastic shift in NYC site safety regulations, and will likely experience a significant increase in random site inspections and DOB Construction Safety Team sweeps, all in an effort to ensure compliance with the new requirements. As specified “Beginning December 11, 2024, the new site safety requirements will apply to any job on a major building that meets the new definition. Any job filed before December 11, 2024, for which an initial General Construction (GC), Structural (ST), Foundation (FO), Support of Excavation (SE), or Earthwork (EA) permit has not been requested or issued as of December 11, 2024, will be required to comply with the new site safety requirements…” This change will alter the requirements related to Site Safety Managers, Superintendents, and other Inspection obligations.
