"Analysis reveals many big producers increased output of fossil fuels and related emissions in seven years after Paris climate deal". Governments and corporations keep pushing the narrative that we need to phase-out coal, oil and gas while burning more than ever fossil fuels, and they call it "sustainable development". The thing is, we know who they are, and public access to information and databases such as Carbon Majors <https://lnkd.in/dyMwWHpt> are more relevant than ever for debates on responsibility, reparation, and just transition. https://lnkd.in/dNjdAde6

It isn't 'human-caused' climate change, it's INDUSTRY-caused. It's not our fault because we drive cars. We don't have a choice. "A mere 57 oil, gas, coal and cement producers are directly linked to 80% of the world’s global fossil CO2 emissions since the 2016 Paris climate agreement, a study has shown. In the database of 122 of the world’s biggest historical climate polluters, the researchers found that 65% of state entities and 55% of private-sector companies had scaled up production." https://lnkd.in/gKbhDVpF

Journey to Net Zero - Are we moving in the right direction? A recent study uncovered that just 57 producers in oil & gas, coal, and cement industries have been responsible for a staggering 80% of the world's global fossil CO2 emissions post the 2016 Paris climate agreement. This emphasizes the crucial role these industries hold in combating climate change. Urgent action from these key players is vital to effectively address the climate crisis. #ClimateChange #FossilFuelEmissions #ParisAgreement #Environment https://lnkd.in/gSwdkxCZ

Wow! __________ A mere 57 oil, gas, coal and cement producers are directly linked to 80% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions since the 2016 Paris climate agreement, a study has shown. This powerful cohort...are the leading drivers of the climate crisis, according to the Carbon Majors Database, which is compiled by world-renowned researchers. Although governments pledged in Paris to cut greenhouse gases, the analysis reveals that most mega-producers increased their output of fossil fuels and related emissions in the seven years after that climate agreement, compared with the seven years before. https://lnkd.in/gqRGdVwm

https://lnkd.in/gpQsYn2B « The concentration of methane in the atmosphere is now more than two-and-a-half times as much as preindustrial levels, and more than half of the world’s methane emissions are man-made. Its presence in the atmosphere dissipates in roughly 12 years, a relatively short span of time, but numerous studies point to its heat-trapping effects as being as much as 80 or more times stronger than carbon dioxide’s. That means it can have more immediate consequences for the climate. In 2021, the United States was among the first signers and promoters of the Global Methane Pledge, which set a target of reducing global, man-made methane emissions by 30 percent from 2020 levels within a decade. The pledge has been signed by 158 countries. “2030 is rapidly approaching, though, and emissions are still being released in huge amounts,” said Mr. Halff. “This seems in large part because oil and gas production is surging both in the U.S. and elsewhere.” » By Max Bearak Sept. 19, 2024

#BREAKING🚨At least 1773 fossil fuel lobbyists registered for #COP29 climate talks this year. Oil, gas, and coal lobbyists outnumber representatives from the Top 10 most climate vulnerable countries combined. Dozens of representatives of the most polluting industry continue to flood UN climate talks, spinning false solutions to a problem they alone created. You may have seen some coverage about a bunch of UN grandees saying this morning that COPs are no longer fit for purpose. This is the WHY that coverage fails or refuses to mention: because the fossil fuel industry has co-opted and corrupted the only plan we have to secure a liveable future. They are in the halls of power, defining the possible by their bottom lines. The call is coming from inside the house. #Climate #FossilFuels #KickBigPollutersOut
Over 1,700 coal, oil and gas lobbyists granted access to Cop29, says report

A new study has shown that a “mere 57 oil, gas, coal and cement producers are directly linked to 80% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions since the 2016 Paris #climate agreement”. The study’s results also highlight that many companies have actually ramped up production since the #ParisAgreement was adopted, thereby compounding the ongoing effects of #ClimateChange rather than contributing to the necessary level of #ClimateAction required to stem global warming and avoid major tipping points.

A new study reveals just 57 major fossil fuel producers are responsible for a staggering 80% of global CO2 emissions since the 2016 Paris climate agreement. Despite promises to cut emissions, most of these corporations have increased production. In fact, in the database of 122 of the world’s biggest historical climate polluters, the researchers found that 65% of state entities and 55% of private-sector companies had scaled up production. It's time to hold them accountable for the climate crisis #ClimateAction #CarbonMajors https://lnkd.in/eZ9tazBt
