“With approximately 11,000 active startups in 2022, and extraordinary investment numbers, the technology entrepreneurship ecosystem continues to accelerate its growth and strengthen its place among the most important in Europe. A unique feature of the Spanish ecosystem among its European peers is that there are two main hubs, Barcelona and Madrid, among a large group of cities and regions that are successfully fostering technology startups, like Valencia, Bilbao or Malaga, to name just the larger ones”.

A few weeks ago I had an interesting talk with Joaquín Paños and I would like to share some key points related to VCs with you. Joaquin told me that Tumo (Techstars ‘24), the fintech where he is co-founder, is part of the Techstars Payment program. Techstars is a startup accelerator that invests in growing companies in exchange for equity investment. Why are accelerators and programs that help startups develop their businesses so important? - According to data from Crunchbase, startups that have gone through accelerator programs in Latin America have raised more than $6.8 billion in funding since 2017. This represents a significant increase of 300% compared to the $1.7 billion raised in 2017. - Programs like Start-Up Chile have supported more than 1,600 startups since its inception in 2010, generating more than 8,000 jobs, Startuplinks developed a very interesting analysis on this topic https://lnkd.in/d6T9QZRF What am I getting at with this? Accelerator programs have had a significant impact on Latin America's entrepreneurial ecosystem in recent years. They have helped startups raise more capital, scale their businesses, and have attracted more investment and resources to the region. If you would like to listen to the talk here is the link https://lnkd.in/dMGTZDHY

It's an honour for COREangels Lisbon to organize the 10th Investment Committee at the Beato Innovation District this Thursday 18st April, and contribute to continue to dynamizing the Lisbon startup ecosystem in the fantastic premises of Restaurante a Praça no Beato Praça next to Unicorn Factory Lisboa. Our group of multicultural angels (we are already 32) coming from six different countries will listen to three pitches from three great startups. It's a fact that Lisbon has the power to attract investors and entrepreneurs and become one of the best world spots to be a founder. Three more startups have the chance to be invested and supported by a great group of angels. Previous investment committee was considered as the best so far by some of our angels and one of the invited guests described the committee as a Portuguese version of the “shark tank”, what was the final reason to make him join the group 😀 You can read about his story in this article: https://lnkd.in/dbr43WPQ If you want to know more about business angels and our activities, please contact us. We love entrepreneurship 😉 #startups #businessangels #lisbon #ecosystem #angelinvesting #entrepreneurs #startupsSelection #InvestmentCommittee
