In October we introduced the New Balance Run Room in the city centre during the Amsterdam marathon! This space was a haven for all runners to gear up, recharge, and connect. BAAS created a Shake Station, offering protein shakes to runners and the public. We kicked the Saturday off with opening the Shake Station, followed by a 5k shake-out run hosted by local run crew SoMuchFunRunClub. Runners could fuel up after with a much deserved protein bowl and we ended the day with drinks and tunes. The Shake Station reopened on the Sunday and the community joined us to close the weekend with an intimate afterparty. Video by Steven Elbers

🏅 Big Sports Events Boost Public Transport Ridership 🏅 Major sports events significantly impact public transport ridership, and the Boston Marathon is a prime example! 🚍🏃 Nearly 30,000 people signed up to run the 26.2 mile race, representing 118 countries and all 50 U.S. states, according to the Boston Athletic Association. Ridership was up by 6% on the Red, Orange, and Blue lines, with about 225,000 entries. The Worcester Commuter Rail Line saw approximately 30,000 passengers, more than double the usual Monday count. Roughly 77,000 entries were counted on the Green Line, a 70% increase over a typical Monday, marking the highest single-day entries since before the pandemic. MBTA GM/CEO Phillip Eng commented, "Throughout the weekend and on Marathon Monday, we carried robust ridership across the system. This further illustrates just how vital public transit is [...] and we’re grateful for the thousands of participants, Marathon spectators, and riders who trusted the MBTA to get them to their destinations, including the finish line." With special schedules and additional trips, public transport plays a crucial role in supporting large-scale events, ensuring fans and participants can travel safely and efficiently. 👏 #PublicTransport #SportsEvents #BostonMarathon #RidershipBoost #CommunitySupport #MBTA https://lnkd.in/eTywnv_j 📸: wal_172619

Running sucks, run clubs suck less 🏃♂️ As I enter the final year of my twenties, the shared, unexplainable desire to start running outside in uncomfortable synthetic clothing has grown and grown 🧐 Two years ago, if you told me I would be getting out of bed at 6 am to run 5K in the rain before work I would have laughed and gone back to sleep, but here I am... 😤 It's not easy, and it's not fun, but it's a hell of a lot easier when you're surrounded by other people going through the same thing 🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃 Run clubs are popular for a reason ➡️ Shared pain is easier to handle because it's validated. You build a sense of solidarity which leads to perspective, and subsequently, motivation to persevere (that was a mouthful) 🫶 I think I speak for alot of people when I say my automatic response to something I'm struggling with is to try and handle it on my own - what I'm learning is that struggles are best shared. Talk to your team, share your struggles, seek solidarity and support, and everything gets easier 🥇 Happy Easter - sorry if this felt like a generic LinkedIn running post, it had to happen at some point 🤷♂️ Lewis Bamber #running #struggles #easter #solidarity #teamwork #communication

Parkrun: The local jog that became a worldwide hit. When a small group of runners gathered on a chilly autumn morning in London 20 years ago, no-one could have realised they were taking part in something that would become an international hit. Green Day's album American Idiot had just reached number one, Ben Stiller's Dodgeball was showing in cinemas and the first series of Strictly Come Dancing had just finished. Organiser Paul Sinton-Hewitt enticed the pioneering 13 runners to turn up to what was then known as the Bushy Park Time Trial on 2 October 2004 after injury prevented him from taking part himself. "It really affects people's lives so that goodness that exists in a park on a Saturday morning extends to the whole week," he says of an event with millions of weekly participants and volunteers. For the uninitiated, Parkrun sees people of all ages and abilities gather in an outdoor space at 09:00 on Saturdays and run for 5km - or just over three miles. Shorter 2km runs for children aged four to 14 and their families take place on Sunday mornings. By Christmas of 2004, the numbers had doubled and by the time of the 2012 Olympics the event had expanded to every London borough. Last month, Lithuania became the latest country to host a Parkrun, taking the overall tally of nations to 23. Ireland is the most popular place for Parkrun worldwide - where between 8-9% of the population are registered. In London, where it all began, there are now nearly 750,000 registered parkrunners (including Greater London) and about 100 events each weekend.
