Will every place become “Smart”? 🌍 On 14 November, our webinar, moderated by Naomi Milstein, brought together Peter Gwyn W. from the Welsh Government, Boris Tomas from Smart Dún Laoghaire, Dr Colin Birchenall, Chief Digital Officer at Glasgow City Council and CTO at Digital Office for Scottish Local Government, and Peter Griffiths ♾ from BABLE Smart Cities to explore this thought-provoking question. The panel stressed that smart places are about more than just technology—they’re about using innovation to enhance social well-being, drive sustainability, and improve economic efficiency. Inclusivity is key, ensuring that both urban and rural communities benefit from smart solutions and that services remain accessible to all. Data was highlighted as a critical enabler of smart solutions, but barriers such as connectivity, citizen trust, and privacy concerns persist. The vision for the future? AI-powered cities that adapt dynamically to citizens’ needs while maintaining resilience, cybersecurity, and equity. Interested in the discussion? Contact us for the webinar recording—and share your thoughts: What does a “Smart Place” mean to you? 💭 #SmartCities #UrbanInnovation #Sustainability #AI #DigitalTransformation #FutureOfCities

Have you visited the new look Digital Twin Hub? If so, the Community Council would love to get your feedback: https://lnkd.in/dPpe5ii. There is such a goldmine of information on the Hub, but sometimes it is not easy to find what you want. Well, we have been working on that and would love to know your experience. Equally, if there is anything you think could be improved, get in touch. Look out for new features that will continue to be rolled out in the coming months. You can go on a guided tour of the redesigned Hub with Daniel Block here: https://lnkd.in/et7deynr Congratulations and well done to Daniel Block, Justin Anderson, Ryan Goodman, Catherine Condie Chart.PR and Nury Moreira BSc, MSc, MCMI. We are looking forward to the next phase of the Hub as we work together to make the information even more relevant and accessible. And in case you missed it, the National Cyber-Physical Infrastructure ecosystem is holding workshops across May and June. You can register here: https://lnkd.in/eVYRgztA. Cyber-physical infrastructure connects the real world with the digital world. It is infrastructure just as roads are infrastructure and requires planning, rules and regulation to function well, and innovation to function better. The workshops will bring together different voices from industry to build opportunities for collaboration to ensure this happens in the right way. #data #digital #digitaltwins #connecteddigitaltwins #cyberphysicalinfrastructure

Leveraging crowdsourced data can transform traffic management with real-time insights, but balancing accuracy and privacy will be essential for sustainable success.
Crowdsourced Data: A New Frontier in Traffic Management In an era of constant connectivity, crowdsourced data offers powerful insights for real-time traffic monitoring and smarter decision-making. With data from everyday users, cities can adapt to changing traffic conditions, improve safety, and optimize urban mobility—all in real-time. However, leveraging this data also raises important questions: - How do we ensure data accuracy and reliability? - What safeguards are needed to protect privacy? Crowdsourced data has immense potential, but striking the right balance will be key. What are your thoughts on the opportunities and challenges? #TrafficManagement #Crowdsourcing #DataDriven #UrbanMobility #SmartCities #Trafficopolis

Just spent the last two days at the Smart Cities Council - ANZ conference as part of #TechWeek. It was a great opportunity to see what's happening locally, especially after starting TechWeek in a panel discussion with NZTE, discussing the importance of taking our innovations offshore. The tech on display was impressive, and although it wasn't all about water, utterly fascinating. However, the real value of these discussions lies in how technology can drive action and foster collaboration. Elle Archer was particularly inspiring with her take on smart city leadership, and Ruth Russell talk on data sovereignty, alongside the efforts of Te Tumu Paeroa and their partnership with Microsoft, really highlighted the importance of safe data management and the importance of collaboration. There were so many excellent presentations, and Digital Twins were a hot topic, with Kerri Gray, Nick Raines, and Juan Martinez all providing plenty of food for thought and allowing me to ask ALL the questions. But... I noticed a recurring gap: the need for vendors and tech providers to collaborate more effectively and affordably to meet end-user needs. At AquaWatch, we recognize the immense value in applying our water tech insights to simplify our clients' lives across various industries. Our approach to product development focuses on making our hardware and data as modular as possible. This allows for easy inclusion within of digital twins and smart city management tools to include real-time data from integrated sensors, generating actionable insights (it's a great phrase, what does it mean? In our case, it means creating a work order when it's needed, not when it makes the most money or after the damage has already been done). By doing so, we aim to free up our clients' time, enabling them to focus on high-value tasks rather than routine activities like taking grab samples or checking grates. In water management, our goal is to move from static maps with pins to interactive, real-time satellite maps that update like traffic flows. This evolution will help us better manage unexpected events, much like how traffic systems handle accidents. After all, no matter how good the modeling is, you can't predict an accident—only its impact. Robyn Francis you're a powerhouse. Thanks for everything you put into this event and I'm looking forward to seeing you again soon!
