There is a increased demand for higher data rates, lower latency rates and energy efficient connectivity. With the anticipated launch of 6G by 2030 this demand will intensify even further. The future landscape of the networks will need to be engineered for increased capacity and connectivity, while focusing on the environmemtal sustainability. The telecommunication companies will adopt Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS platforms that use smart algorithms for the enhaced wireless systems. There are also some key challenges are high hardware costs and the need for standards and regulations to ensure safe and ethical use of this technology.

#DataCenters are expected to make up as much as 8% of the entire US power demand by 2030 - the sector currently sits at 3%. That may not seem like a big increase, but when you consider that most of this growth will occur in specific pockets of the country like Northern VA and Northern TX (as opposed to spread out evenly across most/all states) it's going to pose a real challenge for the local system operators. #FERC is looking at ways to regulate interconnection so that all ratepayers don't cover the cost of system upgrades or net reduction in resource adequacy when generators are taken offline to exclusively serve the data centers - that's a step in the right direction. #EPRI is also running and interesting study on how back-up generation owned by data centers can be used as grid assets.
