💡 Today, let's dive into a moment of technological innovation that changed how we think about communication, as well as current events in sports in France. 📡⚽ On August 14, 1894, Oliver Lodge, a British pioneer, filed a groundbreaking patent for the transmission of radio waves. This discovery paved the way for modern telecommunications as we know them today. 📻🌍 However, over 130 years later, radio, a medium sometimes considered outdated, is making a comeback in France for listening to Ligue 1 football matches. Faced with the exorbitant costs of new DAZN subscriptions, which can reach €39.99 per month, and perceived degraded service quality, many football fans are turning back to radio to follow their favorite team. 🎧📻 It's fascinating to see how a technology from the past can reclaim its place in our daily lives in response to contemporary challenges. Whether through innovation or a return to basics, every advancement matters. So, what boundaries are you ready to push today? 🚀 #Innovation #Technology #History #Inspiration #Football #Ligue1

At #IBC2024, there was a strong focus on the importance of live content in driving audience engagement, both on streaming platforms and linear channels, alongside the increasing push for monetization. My colleague Jonathan Smith rightly pointed out in the article below that in the evolving landscape of live sports, producers must be agile and strategic. Securing valuable sports rights is just the beginning – the bigger challenge lies in maximizing ROI while minimizing risks. The overwhelming response to our latest Nimbra network-edge streaming appliance at IBC2024 was a highlight. The Nimbra 204 allows media companies to profitably monetize events that were previously cost-prohibitive by leveraging more affordable, high-efficiency technology. Another key area is network distribution. Broadcasters can now distribute content to affiliates over affordable, unmanaged networks, significantly cutting costs and simplifying media distribution. A strategic, well-planned live sports distribution approach, tailored to each market’s needs and risks, is essential to unlocking new revenue streams. #IBC2024, #CloudProduction #IPTrustBoundary #RemoteProduction #IBCShow #sportsbroadcasting #netinsightnimbra #remoteproduction #livecloudproduction Read more:

💭”If we can make it possible to bring more revenue into the league and into the clubs, this means the league can get much more professional.” As organizers of the fourth-tier Regionalliga Nord, Norddeutscher Fußball-Verband (NFV) are committed to bringing visibility, sponsorship, and professionalization to close the gap to Germany’s top three men’s professional football leagues. Getting affordable, high-quality broadcast production has been a critical part of that strategy. It’s made possible with Spiideo’s AI-operated camera fleet, automatic production platform Spiideo Play for live games and highlights, and distributed via the SolidSport OTT. All games are scheduled ahead of time via the league office, with match-day operators able to enrich the production via additional graphics, instant replay, and commentary. IBC 2024 (13th - 16th SEPTEMBER) As IBC Amsterdam approaches, I'm reflecting on the incredible advancements in sports production we saw during the recent Olympics. I've seen many LinkedIn posts discussing the Olympics and what was needed to produce all the feeds. It's astonishing to see the army of broadcast media people and technology that was used at this year's Olympics! I was lucky enough to tour the Olympic International Broadcast Centre in Paris (big thanks to EVS for that!). Their live web-based logging system, perfectly tuned to IOC game metadata templates, was truly impressive. It's transformed how sports content is managed and distributed to broadcast partners. One thing that really caught my attention was the apparent increase in camera coverage for various sports. While I don't have exact numbers, there were more angles and views than ever before. This got me thinking: How many cameras were actually used for each sport? More importantly, did these additional perspectives enhance the storytelling, or did viewers find it gimmicky? The Olympics showcased impressive tech upgrades across the board—from camera setups to advanced commentary and post-production facilities and new Contribution and Distribution IP technology. I'm excited to explore how these developments will shape broadcasting's future at this year's IBC conference. Before IBC starts, I'll attend the SVG Europe Sports Production Summit on September 12th. Two sessions I'm particularly looking forward to are the Event Showcase on Paris 2024 (12:20-12:50 PM) with insights from rights-holding broadcasters and The Games & Beyond (12:50-1:00 PM), a case study by TVU Networks on the Paris Olympics. The sheer scale of collaboration and innovation that made Paris 2024 such a spectacular production is truly remarkable. Delving into these cutting-edge technologies and workflows is what makes IBC 2024 an unmissable event for anyone in our industry. I look forward to catching up with past colleagues and exhibitors at IBC 2024, which will be held from September 12 to 16. #IBC2024 #SVG #SportsProduction #BroadcastInnovation #Olympics2024

OBS and the 2024 Paris Olympics: challenges solved (...) "Although 5G technology is on the market and can be used, it is very difficult to guarantee broadcast capacity if a private network is not available. In the Games we are talking about about 450,000 people simultaneously sending photos, making videos and posting on social media. Therefore, the network is saturated and, although it was supplemented, there was a danger that at some point during the broadcasting the systems would not be able to be connected. To avoid this and to ensure stable 5G coverage, OBS decided to implement six private 5G networks, which it managed both for its own use and for that of broadcasters. For the implementation of these networks, OBS relied on the services provided by Orange, which was the technological partner for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. These networks have ensured high quality and reliable images aas well as secure signal transmission to the IBC, covering key areas along the Seine and enabling signals to be transmitted smoothly."
