Guess what new hobby I picked up this year! ☺️
🤨 Alas! No time for new hobbies for me....
I've had hobbies over the years but they've depleted as my responsibilities to others have increased with my age and I know I'm not alone.
But I don't beat myself up about it, I still find joy in my work, exercise and social life.
💫 But one thing I did this year that developed me in my career - I set up a small group of women near me to just have breakfast together once a month. A group of women leaders who I admire, learn from, laugh with and that I trust. #womensupportingwomen
I've noticed since making time for meaningful human connection myself that I've grown in confidence through that group, I've listened and shared and as a result I've gone into new opportunities that I might not have previously.
It's given me confidence which definitely has helped my career, and I don't think I'm alone in needing a bit of that from time to time?

So what new hobbies and skills have I learned? This year's hobbies is a really strange word for me to talk about because everyone who knows me knows I'm very much obsessed with my work, being a working mom with two teenage daughters, running a family home with multiple pets. My life is quite busy and I'm sure lots of of yours are as well and know lots of business leaders and there's also loads of other working parents out there who are constantly thinking of what's next, what's next, what's next. For me, hobbies is not an easy thing to to focus on. I have things that I care about in my health and my exercise routine, but even those things slip. But one of the things that I've done this year that has really helped me in my career is I got together a group of women leaders every month to have breakfast with me. No sales, no typical networking, just really good, meaningful human conversations. Taking time out before our day even started. And connecting in a way of focusing on women, supporting women. For me, that's really important. It's allowed us to have fantastic conversations, share ideas, talk about opportunities. And it's giving me really good confidence to focus on keep going, doing some of the things that I wasn't sure about, but sharing some of those ideas and my worries and anticipation. Actually, I've got some fantastic feedback and support and wonderful ideas from that group of women who I wholly cherish and look forward to seeing in January.
