Truck Drivers Move Us All Forward! These dedicated professionals work tirelessly to keep our shelves stocked and our communities connected. Without their hard work and dedication, our daily lives and the economy would look very different. What do they want us to know as we share the road? - Part 1 Trucks don't have rearview mirrors. If you can't see the driver’s face in his side mirrors- He can't see you either, and you are in a blind spot. Visibility helps prevent accidents. Always pass on the left side, making sure you can see the full front of the truck in your rear-view mirror before you move in front of it and back into the lane. Trucks are heavy and can't stop as quickly as cars. 🚚 Let's keep our roads safe by working together and giving trucks the space they need to maneuver those big rigs, especially around tight corners! #MovingForward #Community #DriveWithUs #SafeDriving #RoadSafety #BeKind #Courtesy #Patience #WorkTogether

Truckers keep America moving and your shelves stocked. We all share the road with trucks and there are some insights to staying safe. -Part 2 🚚 Did you know that truckers have a major blind spot on the right side? It's difficult for them to see you - for your safety and theirs, always pass quickly on the left side, where visibility is better. 🚚 Trucks are heavy and take significantly longer to stop compared to cars. Give them time and space to avoid an accident. 🚚 The turning radius on a truck is wider than a car. Be patient as they make the turn and give them space. 🚛 Road Safety Week: VCV's Top Tips for Safer Driving Around Trucks 🚛 Every year, approximately 1200 people are killed and another 40,000+ are seriously injured on Australian roads. Traffic injury is the biggest killer of Australian children under 15 and the second-biggest killer of all Australians aged between 15 and 24. These numbers are preventable. As drivers, riders and pedestrians, it's crucial to understand the unique challenges and considerations when navigating alongside heavy vehicles. Here's our top tips for all of us to drive safer around trucks: 🚚 Maintain Safe Distances: Due to their size and length, trucks require more time and space to maneuver and have 4 main blind spots. This means truck drivers may not be able to see you. So for everyone’s safety, be cautious when driving next to, or behind a truck – if you can't see the truck's mirrors, the driver likely can't see you. 🚚 Passing with Caution: When passing a truck, ensure you have enough space ahead and maintain a consistent speed. Signal your intention early, pass quickly, and provide ample room before merging back into the lane. 🚚 Avoid Cutting Off Trucks: Trucks can’t stop as quickly as some other vehicles on our roads. Avoid merging in front of trucks, or unexpectedly stepping in front of trucks to cross the road. A B-double truck travelling at only 40km/h can take up to 44 metres to stop. If the same truck is travelling at 60km/h, the stopping distance more than doubles to 90 metres. 🚚 Stay Visible: Always use your headlights, especially during adverse weather conditions or low-light situations. Maintaining visibility is crucial for truck drivers to anticipate your actions. 🏍️ Ride Smart: Motorcycle riders should avoid lane filtering near trucks and buses. Trucks and buses have multiple blind spots and motorcycle riders are at increased risk because of their decreased visibility and lack of protection. 🚚 Be Patient and Predictable: Avoid sudden lane changes or erratic maneuvers. Patience and predictability contribute significantly to smoother traffic flow and reduce the likelihood of accidents. 🚚 Respect Turn Signals: Be attentive to truck turn signals. Give them the space they need to make wide turns safely, especially at intersections and tight corners. 🚚 Stay Alert: Drowsy or distracted driving significantly increases the risk of accidents. Stay focused, well-rested, and never use mobile phones while driving. Remember, truck drivers are looking out for you, so look out for them - road safety is a shared responsibility. Let's prioritise safety on our roads not just during Road Safety Week, but every day. https://ow.ly/6QKo50RB1Pp #VCVau #RoadSafetyWeek #DriveSafe #SafetyFirst

Semi-trucks can’t stop on a dime—and professional drivers are dealing with blindspots the size of Mount Everest. So, as we roll into National Safety Month, we hope you’ll help keep everyone you know safe and pass along this insight on sharing the road with big rigs: - Give yourself a healthy following distance of 20 - 25 car lengths when you’re traveling behind a semi on the highway - Never cut in front of a big rig—that’s their safety zone, and yours - Don’t linger when you’re passing a semi, rather zip on by—if you can’t see the driver’s face in their side view mirror, they can’t see you When we all do our part we help ensure everyone gets safely home. #nationalsafetymonth #roadsafety #highwaysafety #safedriving #truckers #truckdrivers

11 Ways you can help truck drivers on the road... Be patient Signal early No sudden moves Do not tailgate them Don’t cut in front of a truck Give them lots of room to turn Let them merge from the ramp Do not pass them on the right, if possible Give them space if pulled onto the shoulder Flash them in and give them space if they have a turn signal on If you cannot see their mirrors, they cannot see you - don’t be there And yes, truckers ought to follow these same rules. #trucking #roadsafety #truckers

7moI wish that more people had a better understanding of how long it takes to get a truck up to highway speed and even more importantly, how much longer it takes to stop with so much on board weight and momentum. This would make it safer for everyone on the roads. Also, how grateful I am for the vast majority of professional drivers who are unbelievably skilled and how hard they work to keep all of us with the goods that we desire and to keep the roads as safe as possible. Lastly, how many of these great drivers will regularly stop to assist other motorists who are broke down or in weather related trouble. Thank you all of our drivers and to all drivers everywhere!!!
